Rank tracker
Pull every keyword a domain ranks for, with current positions, a twelve-month visibility trend, wins, losses and the keywords driving the traffic.
Last updated 2026-08-06
Summary#
Rank Tracker takes a domain and returns everything it currently ranks for on Google: the positions, how they are distributed across page one and beyond, a twelve-month visibility and traffic trend, the keywords that gained and lost rank since the last crawl, and the keywords bringing in the most traffic. It runs on demand at 1 credit, and pairs with Rank alerts, which watches a short list of those keywords every day.
Purpose#
Two different questions come up when a site's rankings are in doubt. The first is "where do I stand overall", and the second is "did my important keyword just drop". Answering the first with a daily alert system is impractical, because a site of any size ranks for thousands of terms.
Rank Tracker answers the first question in one run. It measures the whole ranking footprint at a moment in time, shows how that footprint has moved over a year, and points at the specific keywords worth watching closely. Those are then the keywords you hand to Rank Alerts.
Requirements#
- A paid plan. Rank Tracker costs 1 credit per run, and the Free plan runs the zero-credit tools only. See How credits work.
- A domain that ranks for something. A brand-new site with no organic presence returns nothing to show.

Navigation Path#
Track & Report → Rank Tracker
The screen's own heading is SERP Rank Tracker.
Inputs#
| Field | Accepts | Notes |
|---|---|---|
The main input, placeholder e.g. nike.com | A domain | https:// and a path are stripped. This is the normal use |
| The same input | keyword for domain.com | The word for splits the two. The domain still drives the report |
| The same input | A bare keyword with no dot | Falls back to a single-SERP view of that keyword's top results |
Try sample fills the field with an example and runs it. Tip: hit Enter after typing — the Enter key submits from the input.
Step-by-Step Guide#
- Type the domain into the input.
- Press Track Positions · 1 report, or press Enter.
- The result area shows
Analyzing… this can take a few seconds for live data.A domain typically takes 10 to 20 seconds. - Read the result from the top: the summary paragraph first, then the trend, then the tables.
If you have run the same domain within the last day, you are offered the saved copy first under You already ran this, with Open saved result at no cost and Run fresh (1 credits) to spend a credit on new data. Results are cached for one day. See Result caching and freshness.
Reading the Results#
The summary strip#
What this means for your SEO opens the result with two to four plain sentences drawn from the numbers: how many keywords the domain ranks for and roughly how many clicks that is worth, how many sit on page two and are therefore the nearest available gain, and the strongest mover in each direction.
The headline figures#
| Figure | What it means |
|---|---|
| Tracked Keywords | How many keywords the domain ranks for |
| Visibility | The share of those keywords sitting in the top 10, as a percentage |
| Avg Position | The mean position across the keywords returned |
| Est. Traffic / mo | Estimated monthly organic clicks |
| Traffic Value (Ads-eq.) | What that traffic would cost to buy as ads |
| Top-3 Rankings | Keywords in positions 1 to 3 |
| Page-2 Opportunity | Keywords in positions 11 to 20 |
| Win Rate (this crawl) | The share of movers that moved upward, across every mover rather than the fifteen listed. Shows n/a on a saved run from before the totals were recorded, because two capped lists always read 50% however far apart the real numbers are |
The ribbon above them repeats five of these as cards — Visibility, Top-3 Rankings, Biggest Mover, Top Traffic Driver and Traffic 12-mo — each with a comparison against a year ago.
Visibility & Traffic Trend (12M)#
Two lines built from measured monthly history: visibility as a percentage, and estimated traffic. This is where a slow decline shows up that no single run would reveal. Points are labelled by month, for example Mar '26.
Position Distribution (real bucket counts)#
How the ranking keywords split across Top 3, 4–10, 11–20, 21–50 and 51–100. The shape matters more than the total. A domain with a large 11–20 bucket has more available upside than one with the same keyword count spread thinly across 51–100.
Wins vs Losses Scoreboard#
Top Wins (gained rank) and Top Losses (dropped rank) show the largest movers, with the position before and after and the size of the move. The comparison is against the previous crawl of that domain, not against your last run of the tool. When there is no movement to report the panels read No ranking wins this crawl. and No ranking losses this crawl.
Each panel is capped at fifteen keywords and says so. A heading above the rows reads All 9 when that is every mover, or Top 15 of 46 when there are more than the panel shows. The total is the real count across every tracked keyword, not the number of rows drawn, so a domain with 46 wins and 16 losses reports exactly that.
There is currently no way to see the movers beyond the fifteenth. Export CSV does not fill the gap either: it exports the ranked-keyword table, which is itself capped at the same 25 rows the table shows rather than the full set, so a mover outside those 25 appears in neither place.
Note: a run you saved before September 2026 stored the capped lists without the totals. Those read Top 15 of at least 15, because fifteen rows is all that result can prove. Re-run the tool for the real figure.
The keyword tables#
Top 5 Traffic-Driving Keywords ranks by measured traffic rather than by position, which is usually the more useful order.
Top Tracked Keywords is the main table, showing up to 25 rows with Keyword, Position, Change, Volume, Difficulty and Est. Traffic. Up to 100 ranked keywords are pulled per run; the table shows the strongest of them.
Traffic Attribution by Position Bucket breaks the same data down by Bucket, Keywords, % of KWs, Est. Traffic and Share, which answers how much of the traffic actually comes from the top three.
Recommended Action Plan#
A short numbered list built from what the run found, with Track these keywords to jump to Rank Alerts and Export action plan to take it away.
Acting on the result#
The quick-actions row under the headline figures carries five buttons.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Export CSV | Downloads the keyword data |
| Export PDF | Exports the result as a PDF |
| Set Rank Alerts | Opens the Rank Alerts screen so you can add keywords by hand |
| Add to Tracker | Queues the top 20 keywords from this result for rank tracking and opens Rank Alerts, confirming with Queued 20 keywords from nike.com for rank tracking. Opening Rank Alerts… |
| Refresh data | Runs the tool again |
Add to Tracker is the intended handoff. On the Rank Alerts screen the queued keywords appear as chips above the form; enter the domain and press Track all 20 to start daily checks on them. See Rank alerts.
The export row at the top of the screen also offers Export PDF, Export Excel, Export CSV, Export JSON and Share public link. See Exporting results and Sharing a result by link.
What it costs#
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Credits per run | 1 |
| Cached for | 1 day |
| Plan needed | Any paid plan |
| Typical run time | 10 to 20 seconds |
Re-opening a cached result costs nothing.
Limitations#
- Results are United States, English, desktop. The country control in the top bar does not change them.
- Up to 100 ranked keywords are pulled per run, ordered by estimated traffic, so a large site's long tail is not represented. The tool measures where the value is, not everything that exists.
- Positions come from a ranking database rather than a live search, so a change made this morning will not appear this afternoon.
- Change, Wins and Losses compare against the provider's previous crawl. The interval between crawls is not something you set.
- Traffic and traffic-value figures are estimates. Treat their direction as the signal, not their exact value.
- A single run is a snapshot. Daily surveillance of specific keywords is what Rank alerts is for.
- Entering a bare keyword produces a single-SERP view without the trend, distribution or wins and losses.

No keywords returned from DataForSEO for this domain. | The domain has no measurable organic rankings, or the input was mistyped | Check the spelling. A new or very small site legitimately returns nothing |
| The trend chart is empty or very short | There is not enough measured history for that domain | The distribution and keyword tables are still valid |
| Wins and Losses are both empty | Nothing moved between the provider's last two crawls | Expected on a stable site. Re-running the same day will not change it |
| The numbers are identical to yesterday's run | You are seeing the cached copy | Choose Run fresh (1 credits) on the saved-result prompt, or press Refresh data |
| Positions do not match what you see in your browser | Your browser results are personalised and localised | Compare the trend over time rather than a single reading |
| Nothing happens when pressing Add to Tracker | The result has no keywords to queue | Run the tool on a domain that ranks for something |
FAQs#
How is Visibility calculated? It is the share of the domain's ranking keywords that sit in the top 10, shown as a percentage. A visibility of 34% means roughly a third of what the domain ranks for is on page one.
Why does it show fewer keywords than my other tools? Each run pulls up to 100 ranked keywords, ordered by estimated traffic, so it concentrates on the ones that matter. For a broader keyword footprint see Organic Research, and for a whole-domain picture see Domain Overview.
Can I track a competitor's domain? Yes. Any domain can be entered, and comparing your distribution against a competitor's is one of the more useful things to do with it.
Does this run automatically? No. Rank Tracker runs when you press the button. The automatic daily checking is Rank alerts. You can also put a recurring reminder on a domain with Scheduled reports.
Which keywords should I move into Rank Alerts? The ones in Top 5 Traffic-Driving Keywords, plus anything in Top Losses you cannot afford to lose. Add to Tracker takes the top 20 in one press.
Why is my page-2 bucket described as an opportunity? Keywords in positions 11 to 20 already rank for the term and need a smaller push than a keyword starting from nothing, so improving those pages is usually the fastest available traffic gain.
