Chrome extension

Install the Metric Vault Chrome extension to see any site's authority, traffic, keywords, backlinks and tech stack from the toolbar, plus authority badges on Google and Bing results.

Last updated 2026-08-06

Summary#

The Metric Vault Chrome extension puts a domain's SEO position one click away from wherever you are browsing. Select the toolbar icon on any page and a popup reports that domain's authority score, estimated monthly organic visits, keyword intent mix, top keywords, top backlinks and detected tech stack. On Google and Bing search results it adds a small badge to each organic listing showing that domain's authority score.

Purpose#

Competitive research usually means leaving the page you are on, opening a tool, pasting a domain and waiting. The extension removes that round trip for the quick question, which is the question you ask most often: is this site big, and is it worth a closer look.

It is a triage instrument. Anything that needs a real answer opens in the dashboard, and every element of the popup links there.

Requirements#

  • Google Chrome, or another Chromium-based browser that installs Chrome Web Store extensions.
  • A Metric Vault account on a paid plan. The quickview reads live provider data, so the request is refused without a signed-in identity, and refused again on the Free plan with This tool needs a paid plan. Free includes the 10 technical SEO tools; upgrade to Pro to unlock the rest. If you do not have an account yet, start at Create your account.
  • An internet connection. The extension has no offline mode.
Important

Important: The popup does not sign you in and does not carry your dashboard session. When the request reaches the server without an identity, the popup shows Please sign in to run this. with a Retry button. Retrying does not change that. The dependable route to the same numbers is Domain Overview in the dashboard, which the popup's Full analysis button opens for you. The eleven tools at /free-tools need no account at all and always work; see Free tools, no account needed.

Permissions#

The extension requests four things, and nothing else:

PermissionWhy it is needed
activeTabTo read the domain of the tab you are currently on when you open the popup
storageTo cache responses locally so the same domain is not re-fetched repeatedly
Access to metricvaultai.comTo fetch the data the popup shows
Access to google.com and bing.comTo place the authority badge on search results

It does not read your browsing history, does not send your activity anywhere, and makes no network request to any host other than metricvaultai.com. Cached entries live in local browser storage and are cleaned up automatically.

metricvaultai.com → footer → Chrome extension

The listing is also reachable from the Chrome Web Store directly. Several pages on the site show a banner reading Get the Metric Vault browser extension – audit any page as you browse with an Install button.

Step-by-Step Guide#

Install it#

  1. Open the Metric Vault listing on the Chrome Web Store, from the site footer link or the install banner.
  2. Select Add to Chrome, then confirm the permissions prompt.
  3. Pin the extension so the icon stays visible: select the puzzle-piece icon in the Chrome toolbar, then the pin beside Metric Vault.

Use the popup#

  1. Navigate to any public website.
  2. Select the Metric Vault icon. Its tooltip reads Metric Vault — SEO Quickview.
  3. The popup shows the domain and its favicon at the top, then Analyzing domain… with the note live signal · 2-5s while it loads.
  4. Read the three headline tiles, then the sections beneath.
  5. Select Full analysis or Dashboard in the footer to open the same domain in the app.

Use the search-results overlay#

  1. Run a search on google.com or bing.com.
  2. Each organic result gains a small Metric Vault badge beside its title. The score appears as a pulsing placeholder first and fills in as data arrives.
  3. Hover a badge for the domain, its authority and its estimated monthly visits.
  4. Select a badge to open that domain in the Metric Vault dashboard in a new tab.

Badges are re-applied as Google loads more results, so scrolling keeps working.

What the popup shows#

SectionContents
AuthorityA 0-100 gauge derived from organic visibility and backlink signals
Monthly VisitsEstimated monthly organic visits, with a twelve-month sparkline where history is available
AI VisibilityA 0-100 composite of organic top-three share, backlink rank and referring-domain authority. Shows a SOON badge when it cannot be computed
Keyword intent mixA donut splitting the top keywords into Commercial, Informational, Navigational and Transactional
Top KeywordsUp to five ranked keywords with position and search volume. Select one to open it in Keyword Overview
Top BacklinksUp to three referring domains with their domain authority, each openable in a new tab
Tech StackDetected technologies as pills
Quick actionsFull audit, Content gaps and VS rival, each deep-linking into the matching dashboard tool

The freshness line beside the domain reads just now immediately after a fetch, then Nm ago, Nh ago or Nd ago when a cached entry is served.

Important

Important: The AI Visibility number in the popup is a heuristic composite built from organic and backlink signals. It is not a measured count of ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity mentions. For measured AI visibility use Visibility Overview and Prompt Tracking in the app.

Caching#

The popup reuses a stored response for one hour per domain, and the search overlay for thirty minutes, so the same domain appearing repeatedly does not cause repeated fetches. A background job clears stored entries older than six hours. Server side, a domain's quickview is reused for twenty-four hours.

Remove it#

Right-click the extension icon and select Remove from Chrome, or manage it from chrome://extensions. Removing it deletes its local cache. It changes nothing about your Metric Vault account.

FAQs#

Do I need an account? Yes for the quickview, and a paid plan. The data it shows comes from a paid provider, so the request is refused without a signed-in identity and refused again on the Free plan. The eleven public tools at /free-tools need no account at all; see Free tools, no account needed.

Does it track my browsing? No. It reads the domain of the tab only when you open the popup, and the only network requests it makes are to metricvaultai.com.

Which browsers are supported? Chrome and Chromium-based browsers that install from the Chrome Web Store. There is no Firefox or Safari build.

Why does the popup number differ from the dashboard? The popup is a compact quickview with its own cache window and default location. The dashboard tools apply your country and date-range settings and query more endpoints, so treat the popup as triage and the dashboard as the answer.

Can I turn off the search-results badges but keep the popup? Not from the extension itself. Chrome's own site-access controls at chrome://extensions let you restrict where it runs.

Does the extension cost anything or use credits? Installing it costs nothing, and a quickview does not deduct credits from your monthly allowance. It is still checked against your plan and against the hourly fair-use limit before it runs. See How credits work for how usage is counted elsewhere.

How do I know it is installed correctly? The icon appears in the toolbar and its tooltip reads Metric Vault — SEO Quickview. Opening it on any public site should show that domain's name at the top of the popup.
