Summary#

Connecting LinkedIn lets Metric Vault publish a text post to your personal LinkedIn profile, immediately or on a schedule. LinkedIn asks you to approve four things: your identity, your basic profile, your email address, and permission to post as you. After you approve, you confirm which account posts go to. Company Pages appear in that list only once LinkedIn has approved Metric Vault for them, which it has not yet, so today posts go to your personal profile. Connecting is free; publishing costs 1 credit for each channel that accepts the post.

Purpose#

LinkedIn is where most B2B content earns its distribution, and it is also the platform people are most reluctant to automate, because a post appears under their own name. The connection is built to be honest about that. Posts are published publicly to the account you picked, and nothing is posted that you did not write and send.

Connecting it means the content you draft in Metric Vault can go out without a copy-and-paste round trip, and can be queued alongside your other channels in one calendar.

Requirements#

• A Metric Vault account you are signed in to. Connecting works on every plan; publishing needs a paid plan and available credits. See Connecting social accounts.
• A LinkedIn account.
• The LinkedIn row must show Connect rather than Setup needed. See Connecting social accounts.
• Popups allowed for this site, because the consent window opens as a popup.

Permissions#

Any signed-in user can connect their own LinkedIn account. There is no role gate, and the connection is personal: teammates do not inherit it.

LinkedIn asks you to approve these.

The last one is the one that matters. It is what makes publishing possible, and it is the reason posts appear under your name rather than under a Metric Vault brand. Metric Vault only ever uses it to create the posts you send.

Posting as a company Page needs two more permissions: the list of Pages you administer, and permission to post as them. LinkedIn only allows an app to ask for these after approving it for its Community Management API. Metric Vault checks for that approval each time you connect, and asks for the two extra permissions only when LinkedIn has granted it. Until then the consent screen shows the four above.

Navigation Path#

Dashboard → Account & Team → Integrations

The connect control is in the Connected channels card. Publishing happens at Dashboard → Promote → Social Dashboard.

Step-by-Step Guide#

1. Open Integrations from the sidebar, under Account & Team.
2. In Connected channels, find the LinkedIn row.
3. Check the status. Not connected means you can proceed. Setup needed means LinkedIn is not configured for this site, and pressing Connect will say so rather than opening LinkedIn. Report it.
4. Press Connect. A popup window opens onto LinkedIn's consent screen.
5. Sign in to LinkedIn if you are not already.
6. Review the permission list and press Allow.
7. The popup shows Choose the account you want to connect. Your profile is listed with Personal profile underneath. Company Pages you administer are listed with Company page underneath, when they are available.
8. If company Pages are not available, a note above the list explains why. It starts Company Pages are not available:, for example Company Pages are not available: LinkedIn refused (403). The app does not have the Community Management API product approved. Your profile is still listed and works.
9. Select the account posts should go to and press Continue.
10. The popup shows LinkedIn connected with the account name, then closes itself.
11. The LinkedIn row now shows that name and a Disconnect button.

What you can do once connected#

Write a post in Compose a post on the Social Dashboard, select LinkedIn among the channels, and press Publish. The post is created on the account you chose as a text post, with public visibility, exactly as if you had typed it into LinkedIn yourself. An attached image is not sent to LinkedIn.

On success the result row shows View post, which links to the published update. Scheduling works the same way through Schedule, and the queued post goes out at the time you chose. See Publishing and scheduling posts and Scheduled social posts.

Tips#

• Write for LinkedIn's first three lines. The feed truncates a post after a short preview, so put the hook at the top.
• Post one channel at a time when you are testing. Publish to LinkedIn alone first, check how it renders, then add other channels to the same draft.
• Check the character counter. The counter only switches to n / 280 when X is one of the selected channels. With LinkedIn alone it shows a plain count.

Limitations#

• Personal profile only, today. Company Pages depend on LinkedIn approving Metric Vault for them. Showcase Pages are not offered.
• Public visibility only. Visibility cannot be changed.
• Text only. Images, documents, videos, polls and article posts are not supported. Links inside the text are posted as text and LinkedIn decides whether to render a preview.
• No comments or engagement are read back. Nothing about how a post performs is returned to Metric Vault.
• A scheduled post's text is stored up to 4,000 characters. Longer drafts are shortened when queued.
• Renewal depends on LinkedIn. If LinkedIn issued a renewal token when you connected, the connection renews itself when you publish close to expiry. Otherwise, when LinkedIn stops accepting it, you reconnect.
• Disconnecting removes every LinkedIn account stored for you, not only the one shown in the row.

FAQs#

Will people see that the post came from a tool? LinkedIn may show the posting application on the update. The post itself is attributed to you.

Can I post to my company's LinkedIn Page? Not today. Company Pages appear in the account list only once LinkedIn approves Metric Vault for company Page access. Until then, posts go to your personal profile.

Can I make a post visible to connections only? No. Posts are published publicly.

Is there a character limit? Metric Vault does not impose one for LinkedIn, and LinkedIn enforces its own. A post queued for later is stored up to 4,000 characters.

Does it cost credits? Connecting is free. Publishing costs 1 credit for each channel that accepts the post, and needs a paid plan. See Connecting social accounts.

Can my teammates publish through my LinkedIn connection? No. Connections belong to the account that made them.

What happens to my published posts if I disconnect? Nothing. They stay on LinkedIn. Only the ability to publish new ones from Metric Vault is removed. See Disconnecting an integration.

Can Metric Vault delete or edit my posts? The permission LinkedIn grants covers it, but Metric Vault does not offer any edit or delete action. Posts are only ever created.
