TikTok and Threads

Summary#

TikTok and Threads are two of the six channels you can connect to Metric Vault. Both connect the same way: you click Connect, approve the request on the platform's own site, and the channel row fills in with your account name. What they can do afterwards is different. Threads publishes text posts from the composer, up to 500 characters counted in bytes. TikTok connects and stores the account, but it cannot publish from Metric Vault, because TikTok requires a video and Metric Vault does not upload video.

Purpose#

Both platforms sit outside the older social stack most SEO tools cover, and both are where a lot of short-form audience attention now lives. Connecting them puts them in the same channel list as LinkedIn, X, Facebook and Instagram, so your posting plan and your calendar cover the whole set rather than the half that was easy to wire up.

A TikTok connection proves the account is reachable and stores the identity, but it does not let you post anything today.

Requirements#

• A signed-in Metric Vault account. Connecting works on every plan; publishing to Threads needs a paid plan and available credits. See Connecting social accounts.
• A TikTok or Threads account you can log into in the same browser.
• The platform must be configured on the Metric Vault side. If it is not, the channel row reads Setup needed and the Connect button will not produce a working flow. That is a platform configuration matter, not something you can fix from your account.
• A browser that allows popups for metricvaultai.com. The connection opens in a 600 by 720 popup window and cannot complete in a blocked one.

Threads accounts are Meta accounts. If your organization already connected Facebook or Instagram, Threads may be served by the same underlying app, so a Threads connection can succeed even though it looks like a separate platform.

Permissions#

Any signed-in user can connect a channel to their own account. There is no team role requirement.

Social connections are stored against your email address, not against a shared workspace. A teammate signing in to the same workspace sees their own channel list, not yours. This is different from the Google Search Console connection, which a workspace does share. See What teammates share.

A Metric Vault administrator with the owner role can remove a connection on a customer's behalf. Otherwise only you can remove it.

Navigation Path#

Dashboard → Account & Team → Integrations → Connected channels

Publishing happens at Dashboard → Promote → Social Dashboard.

Step-by-Step Guide#

1. Go to Dashboard → Account & Team → Integrations. The Connected channels card lists all six platforms in a fixed order: LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Threads.
2. Find the TikTok or Threads row. If it reads Not connected, the channel is ready for you. If it reads Setup needed, stop and contact support.
3. Click Connect. A popup opens on the platform's own site.
4. Sign in there if you are not already, and approve the permissions listed below. Complete this within 15 minutes. The handshake is single-use and expires after that.
5. The popup shows TikTok connected or Threads connected and closes itself after about half a second. Neither platform has an account list to choose from, because each login covers one account. The channel row refreshes to show your account name.

If the popup cannot signal back to the dashboard, which some browsers enforce, the row still refreshes the next time the dashboard window regains focus. Click anywhere on the dashboard and the list updates.

What each connection asks for#

Metric Vault requests the narrowest scope set that supports connecting and publishing. Nothing here grants access to read your direct messages, your followers list or your analytics.

TikTok uses a proof-key handshake, which means the secret that completes the connection never travels in the browser address bar. Threads uses the standard Meta authorization flow.

After the connection succeeds, Metric Vault reads your public profile once so the channel row can show something recognizable. For TikTok that is your display name and avatar. For Threads it is your username. If that lookup fails the connection is still stored, and the row falls back to TikTok account or Threads account.

How long each connection lasts#

When Threads stops accepting the stored connection, publishing returns Your Threads connection has expired. Reconnect Threads and try again.

What you can publish today#

Threads counts a post's length in bytes rather than characters, so emoji and some accented characters count more than once. A post over the limit returns This post is <n> characters (emoji count extra on Threads); Threads allows 500. Trim <m> and try again. and the other channels in the same send still go out. The composer's counter does not track this limit.

Threads is published through a two-stage call. If the first stage fails you see Threads could not stage the post.; if the second fails you see Threads could not publish the post. Both mean nothing went live.

Threads does not return a link to the published post, so in the composer results the Threads row reads Posted rather than offering a View post link. Open Threads directly to see it. An image attached in the composer is not sent to Threads.

Select TikTok in the composer and the post still runs. Every other selected channel publishes normally, and the TikTok row alone shows the video message. One channel failing never blocks the others. See Publishing and scheduling posts.

Reading the channel row#

Limitations#

• TikTok cannot publish from Metric Vault. TikTok requires a video, and Metric Vault does not upload video.
• Threads posts are text only, up to 500 bytes. An attached image is not sent.
• Threads posts return no permalink. You get confirmation, not a link.
• One account per platform is used for publishing. You can connect more than one account to the same platform, but the most recently connected one is the one that posts.
• Connections are personal, not shared. Each teammate connects their own.

FAQs#

Does connecting TikTok cost credits? No. Connecting a channel is free. Publishing costs 1 credit for each channel that accepts the post, so a post to Threads costs 1 and a TikTok row, which never accepts, costs nothing. See How credits work.

Can I connect two TikTok accounts? Yes. Metric Vault stores connections per account, so two TikTok accounts can both be connected. Publishing uses the most recently connected one, so treat the second connection as a stored identity rather than a second posting target.

Will connecting Threads also connect Instagram or Facebook? No. They are separate rows and each must be connected on its own, even where the same underlying Meta app serves them.

Do I need to reconnect Threads? Not if you post to it at least once a month; the connection keeps itself alive. If you leave it unused for longer, it expires after about sixty days and you reconnect.

Does anyone get notified when I connect a channel? No. Nothing is emailed and no teammate is alerted. The connection appears in your activity history as Connected TikTok or Connected Threads.

Can I undo a connection? Yes, at any time, and it takes effect immediately. See Disconnecting an integration.

When will TikTok publishing work? There is no date to give you. The connection, the permissions and the channel row are in place, but the video upload path is not built. We will not put a promise here that the product cannot keep today.
