My scheduled report never arrived
How scheduled reports actually fire, what the email does and does not contain, and the checks that tell you whether the schedule ran at all.
Last updated 2026-08-28
Summary#
A scheduled report has two separate halves: the schedule firing, and an email going out. Either can be the missing piece. This page shows you how to tell which one failed, and sets out plainly what a scheduled run does today so you know what to expect in your inbox. Nothing here needs support to diagnose, and no scheduled run ever spends credits without you.
Symptoms#
- The schedule appears in Your Active Schedules but the Runs count has never moved past zero.
- The Next run date has passed and nothing happened.
- The report arrived, but at a different hour than the cadence label led you to expect.
- No email arrived at the recipient address, even though the schedule shows a run.
- The email arrived but there is no report attached to it.
- The schedule list reads

Diagnosis#
Read this section in order. Each step rules out one layer.
1. Confirm the schedule exists and is yours.
Go to Dashboard → Track & Report → Scheduled Reports. The Your Active Schedules table lists Workflow, Target, Cadence, Email, Next run and Runs. If the table shows You have no scheduled reports yet. Create one above., the schedule was never created. If it shows Sign in to see your schedules., your session ended and the list is not loading at all.
If you are viewing a teammate's workspace, you see that workspace's schedules, not your own. Check the workspace you are in before concluding a schedule vanished. See What teammates share.
2. Check the Email column.
The Email column shows the recipient address, or the words in-app only when no recipient was set. in-app only means no email will ever be sent for that schedule, by design. Delete it and create a new one with a recipient address.
3. Check whether the run happened at all.
Open the notifications bell in the header. Scheduled runs appear there as Scheduled report ready: followed by the workflow and target. A failed run appears as Scheduled report failed: followed by the target, marked High. The panel footer confirms its sources: Alerts from Watchtower, Rank Alerts, and Scheduled Reports.
If there is no entry at all, the schedule has not fired yet.
4. Understand the timing.
Every cadence is anchored to 09:00 UTC on a real calendar boundary, so the labels mean what they say. Daily is the next 09:00. Weekly and biweekly are the next Monday 09:00, or the Monday after next. Monthly is 09:00 on the 1st.
Scheduled work is not driven by a clock inside the app, though. An external scheduler calls Metric Vault every 15 minutes and each pass picks up whatever is due, so a run lands at or shortly after its anchor time, typically within that quarter hour. It is never early.
When you create a schedule, the confirmation tells you the exact first-run date it stored, in your own timezone:
Schedule created. First report runs Mon, Sep 1, 9:00 AM.Read that date. It is the single best check that the schedule is set the way you meant, and it is the time to compare against if the report seems late.
Each pass processes up to 20 due schedules. On a busy account with many schedules, the remainder are picked up on the following pass.
5. Check the recipient's inbox properly.
Scheduled report emails are sent from reports@metricvaultai.com with the subject Scheduled report ready: followed by your target. Search the whole mailbox for that sender rather than scanning the inbox, and check spam and any mail rules. Corporate filters commonly quarantine the first message from a new sender.
6. Check your notification preferences.
Go to Dashboard → user menu → Account → Preferences. If Email Notifications is off, scheduled report emails are suppressed for your whole account, whatever the schedule says. Turn it back on. See Notification preferences.
Resolution#
If the schedule never fired
- Confirm your plan. Creating a schedule requires Starter or above. On Free the create button returns
This feature requires the Starter plan. Your account is on Free. Upgrade to unlock it.A schedule created before a downgrade stays in the list. - Confirm the target was filled in. An empty target returns
Enter a target first. - Compare against the first-run date the app showed you when you created the schedule, not against your own idea of the cadence. Give it about 15 minutes past that time before raising it, for the timing reasons above.
- If a full day has passed with no entry in the notifications panel, delete the schedule and create it again. Deleting is confirmed with
Delete this schedule?and removes that schedule's run history with it.
If the run happened but no email arrived
- Check the Email column shows a real address, not
in-app only. - Turn Email Notifications on in Account → Preferences.
- Search the recipient mailbox for
reports@metricvaultai.com, including spam and quarantine. - If the address is correct and the mailbox is clean, email delivery is not configured on the environment you are using. The Scheduled Reports screen states this on the form:
`` Every scheduled run is saved to My Content / Reports. Email delivery requires Resend to be configured; otherwise reports are stored in-app for download. ``
Contact support in that case. See Contacting support.
If the report arrives at an unexpected hour
The 09:00 anchor is 09:00 UTC, not 09:00 where you are. In London that is 09:00 or 10:00 depending on the season, in New York 04:00 or 05:00, in Manila 17:00. The cadence itself is honoured exactly, so the hour is the only thing that will surprise you, and the first-run date in the creation confirmation already shows it converted to your local time.
There is no setting for the anchor hour. If the delivery time does not suit you, run the workflow manually at the hour you want.
Schedules created before 2026-08-27 were given a fixed offset from their creation time rather than a calendar anchor, which is why an older schedule can sit on an odd day or hour. Delete and recreate it to move it onto the anchor.
What the email contains, and what it does not
Be clear with yourself about what a scheduled run delivers today:
| You get | You do not get |
|---|---|
| A run recorded against the schedule, visible in the notifications panel | A freshly executed multi-tool workflow |
| An email announcing the report is ready, with a link into your reports library | A PDF attached to the email |
| The run counter incremented and the next run date advanced | Credits spent on your behalf |
The scheduled job records the run and notifies you. To produce the finished analysis, open the workflow in the app and run it. That design keeps automated scheduling from quietly spending your credit allowance while you are not looking. See Scheduled reports for the full behavior and How credits work for how credits are consumed.
Prevention#
- Always set a recipient address when you want an email. A schedule with no recipient is in-app only, permanently.
- Use a shared mailbox as the recipient on a team, so a report does not sit unread in one person's inbox during leave.
- Add
reports@metricvaultai.comto your safe senders before the first run, not after you have already missed one. - Keep Email Notifications on if you rely on any automated email. That one switch suppresses both scheduled report emails and AI-visibility drop alerts.
- Check the schedule list after any plan change. Downgrading below Starter stops you creating new schedules.
- Do not stack many schedules on the same hour. Each pass handles up to 20 due schedules, so heavy clustering pushes some into the next pass.
- Use the notifications panel as your record of truth, not your inbox. It shows every run the platform performed, including ones whose email was suppressed.
