AI rank tracker for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude
Your buyers now ask an assistant before they open Google. Metric Vault saves the prompts they actually type, sends them to the AI engines, and charts whether your brand is named, where in the answer it lands, and how it is described, so you can watch your share of the answer the way you watch a Google position.
Why classic position tracking misses AI answers
A rank tracker built for Google answers one question: for this keyword, what position is my URL in the ten blue links. That is still worth knowing. But it cannot see the surface where a growing share of buying research now happens, which is the answer an assistant writes back when someone asks it a question directly.
When ChatGPT or Gemini answers, there is no list of ten links to hold a position in. There is a paragraph, and either your brand is named in it or it is not. A keyword tracker has no way to measure that. It does not send prompts, it does not read a generated answer, and it has no concept of being mentioned rather than ranked. So the entire AI surface is a blind spot: you can hold position one on Google and still be absent from the answer a buyer actually reads.
An AI rank tracker measures that surface directly. Instead of a keyword and a position, it works from a prompt and an appearance: did the answer name you, where in it, and what did it say. That is the gap this tool closes.
An AI visibility tracking tool that runs real prompts
You start by saving the prompts you care about, the real questions a buyer would ask in your category. You leave your brand name out of them on purpose, so the tool measures whether you come up unprompted rather than feeding the answer. If you have not saved any, Metric Vault generates a neutral set, a mix of recommendation, comparison, problem-solving and pricing questions, and you can replace those with your own at any time.
From then on those exact prompts are sent to every AI engine that is connected on your account. ChatGPT is always measured; Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews are each measured when that engine is configured. That makes it a ChatGPT rank tracker without any extra setup, and adds the other four engines as you connect them. For every answer, the tracker records whether your brand appeared, roughly where in the answer it landed, the sentiment of what was said, and a short excerpt of the real response, so a score always traces back to something you can read.
Keeping that current happens two ways. A background pass runs roughly once a day and re-measures your most recently used brands, up to five at a time and up to eight prompts each, so the brands you are actively working on keep a daily trend. And you can re-run any brand yourself at any moment for an immediate reading, which also moves it to the front of that queue. Track more than five brands and the least recently used wait for their turn until you run a tool on them again, so nothing is ever more than a click from an update.
Alerts and reporting
An AI visibility rank tracker is only worth as much as the history behind it. Every run adds a point to a trend line, so instead of a single score you get the shape over time: your appearance rate and average position climbing or slipping across the engines, and a comparison of up to five brands over the last thirty days on the same chart. History is kept for about ninety days.
When your visibility drops past a threshold you set, Metric Vault emails you. Be clear on the limits here: visibility-drop alerts are email only, there is no Slack or webhook delivery for them, and an alert fires at most once every twenty-four hours per rule, so a slide over several days sends one email a day rather than a flood.
For anything deeper than the charts, the CSV export carries the raw grid, one row per prompt per engine per run, with the captured date, brand, engine, prompt, whether the brand appeared, its position and the sentiment. That is the detail to pull into a client report or your own spreadsheet. To see who the engines cite as a source rather than just who they mention, pair this with the AI visibility tool, where the AI Citation Tracker lives.
AI rank tracker vs Google rank tracker
They measure different surfaces and answer different questions. Metric Vault runs both, so this is about which one fits the job, not which product to buy.
| What you compare | AI rank tracker | Google rank tracker |
|---|---|---|
| What you track | A prompt, the question a buyer asks an assistant. | A keyword, the phrase a buyer types into search. |
| What ranks | Your brand inside the generated answer. | A URL among the ten blue links. |
| What a result means | Whether you are named, where in the answer, and share of voice against rivals. | A numeric position, 1 to 100, for that URL. |
| Surface measured | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews, where connected. | Google and other search engines' results pages. |
| Sentiment | Yes. How the answer describes you, not just that it named you. | No. A ranking has no tone. |
| Data source | Live prompts sent to the AI engine APIs. | Live SERP data from DataForSEO. |
| In Metric Vault | This tracker, in the AI Search Intelligence tools. | The separate Rank Tracker tool. |
Engine coverage depends on which AI connections are configured on the account; ChatGPT is always measured. Behaviour described here matches the shipped product as of September 2026.
