Saved Work

The Library file explorer where tools are folders and your saved results are the files inside them: browse, search, reopen for free, re-run with fresh data, and delete.

Last updated 2026-08-11

Summary#

Saved Work is a file explorer for everything you have generated. Each tool is a folder; the results you ran with it are the files inside. You land on a screen of folders, open one to see its results, come back out, and open the next — the same way you move around anywhere else on a computer. Search cuts across all of them at once, and reopening anything costs nothing. From the same screen you can re-run a result with fresh data, download its raw data, or delete it permanently. Everything you have run in the last 90 days is here without you having saved anything by hand.

Purpose#

By your second week in a tool like this you have run a hundred things and you can no longer remember which. A flat, undated list of a hundred rows is not much better than no list at all, because the question you actually have is never "what did I do recently" but "where is my Domain Overview for this client".

So the workspace is organized the way that question is shaped, and in the shape everyone already knows: folders. The tool is the folder, the target you typed is the filename, and you navigate between them the way you navigate anything else on a computer — click in, breadcrumb or Escape to come back out, click the next one. There is deliberately no sidebar listing every tool beside the contents: a permanent list of destinations is a navigation menu, and a menu sitting next to folders is not a file explorer, it is a menu with folders in it. And because reopening is free, it is genuinely cheaper to look here first than to run anything again.

Requirements#

  • A signed-in account.
  • At least one successful run. See Saving a result for what gets saved.
  • No plan requirement. Saved Work is available on every plan, including Free.

Permissions#

Saved Work shows only your own runs. There is no shared or team view of saved results, and no way to open a teammate's. Deleting is verified against your signed-in session, so a saved result can only ever be deleted by the account that created it.

Dashboard → Library → Saved Work

The rail icon is labelled Library and its single sidebar entry is labelled Saved Work. The screen itself is titled Library.

Note

Note: The Library used to have a second tab called Activity. It has been removed. See Report history for where its answers live now.

Step-by-Step Guide#

Find a saved result#

  1. Open Dashboard → Library → Saved Work. The top level is a screen of folders, one per tool you have run, and nothing else.
  2. Each folder card carries the tool's name, how many results are in it, and when it was last added to.
  3. As soon as your folders come from more than one area of the app they are grouped under the same section headings the sidebar uses, in the same order, with a count on each heading: Keyword & Content Research, Competitors & Backlinks, AI Visibility, Site Health, Write & Optimize, Promote, Track & Report and Image Tools. If every folder you have belongs to one section the grid stays flat, because a single heading over everything says nothing. A tool that has not been filed under a section appears under Other tools.
  4. Click a folder to open it. The path at the top changes to Saved work › <tool name> and the body lists that tool's results.

Move around#

The path across the top is how you know where you are, and it is the whole navigation. It always starts at Saved work and grows as you go in:

What you are looking atThe path reads
The foldersSaved work
Inside a toolSaved work › Domain Overview
A search across every toolSaved work › "apple"
A search inside one toolSaved work › Domain Overview › "apple"

A search is part of the path on purpose. Without it the path would say Saved work while the screen showed matches from six different tools, and the one control whose job is to tell you where you are would be telling you wrong.

Every segment except the last one is a button that takes you there. Clicking the tool name drops the search and leaves you in that folder; clicking Saved work drops both and returns you to the folders.

To do thisUse
Open a toolClick its folder card
Go back one stepThe Back to all tools arrow, or press Escape or Backspace
Jump straight back to the foldersThe Saved work segment of the path
Cross to another toolGo up, then open the next folder

Back, Escape and Backspace all unwind the path one segment at a time and in the order the path shows, so a search is dropped before the folder is left. When there is nowhere left to go, the arrow is disabled rather than hidden.

Metric Vault remembers the folder you were last in, so leaving the Library and coming back puts you where you were.

Saved work belongs to a website#

The Library shows the saved work for the website you currently have selected in the switcher, and nothing else. Switching website changes the folders, the counts and the results inside them, and returns you to the top level, because the folder you were in may hold nothing under the newly selected website.

A result is filed under whichever website was active when you ran the tool. That is attribution, not a restriction: running a competitor tool against someone else's domain still files the result under the website you were working on, which is what makes it findable later.

Work saved before multiple websites existed is not attributed to any of them. It appears under your first website, the one that was your only website when that work was saved, and does not appear under any website you add afterwards.

Search, sort and switch layout#

  • Search matches what you typed when you ran the tool. From the top level it searches every folder at once and shows a Tool column so you can see which folder each hit came from; inside a folder it searches only that folder.
  • Sort changes what is listed, so its options change with it. At the top level you are ordering folders: Recently updated, Name A to Z, Most results. It orders folders inside each section; the sections themselves stay in the sidebar's order, which is the point of grouping them. Inside a folder you are ordering results: Newest first, Oldest first, Name A to Z, Highest cost. Ordering is done on the server, so it holds across every page rather than only the rows already loaded.
  • Layout switches between the grid of cards and the list, which lays the same results out as columns — Name, Tool, Saved and Cost — for comparing at a glance. Your choice is remembered.

Read a result#

Whichever layout you are in, every saved run offers the same things:

ElementMeaning
CheckboxSelects the result for a bulk action. Its label is Select this result
NameWhat you typed, or Untitled result when there was no query
ToolWhich tool produced it. Shown at the top level and while searching, not inside a folder where every row is the same tool
SavedToday, Yesterday or a short date. The full timestamp is in the tooltip
CostN credit, N credits, or Free for a zero-cost tool
OpenOpens the full report in the viewer. Clicking anywhere on the row does the same
DeleteRemoves this one result permanently

The count under the list tells you where you are: N results in M tools at the top level, N results inside a folder, N of M results while a folder is only part-loaded, and N matches across M tools while searching.

A folder loads 40 results at a time. When there are more, a Load more button appears at the bottom. Pressing it appends the next page without losing your place. Changing the search, the sort or the folder starts the list again from the top.

Reopen a result#

  1. Press Open on any card.
  2. The viewer opens as a dialog titled with the tool name, and a sub-line reading your target followed by the full timestamp of the run.
  3. The badge in the header reads No credits used.
  4. The body replays the report exactly as it was drawn when you ran it. This is the same copy a share link serves, so it looks like the live result rather than a reconstruction.
  5. At the bottom, a collapsed View raw data section holds the underlying data. Very large payloads are truncated in this preview; use Download JSON for the whole thing.
  6. Press Escape, click outside the dialog, or use the close button to leave.

The viewer header carries up to five actions, and the ones that do not apply are hidden rather than disabled:

ActionWhen it appearsWhat it does
Generate reportThe saved run has a subject: a domain, URL or target in its data, or the query you typedCloses the viewer, opens Domain Overview with that subject filled in, and starts the run immediately
Run fresh · N crThe tool can be re-run from hereRe-runs the same tool and spends credits
Download image or Download previewImage tool runsSaves the produced image file
Download JSONAlwaysSaves the complete result data
CloseAlwaysCloses the viewer
Warning

Warning: Generate report always produces a Domain Overview, whatever tool the saved result came from, and it runs without a further confirmation. That is a normal Domain Overview run at its normal cost of 6 credits, unless you have run the same thing recently, in which case the reuse prompt offers you the saved copy first. See Saving a result. Use Run fresh when you want the same tool again.

Note

Note: If a result was saved before its rendered report could be attached, the viewer redraws it from the data instead, and you may see the note that this result has no visual layout available with the raw data below it. The data is complete either way.

Run fresh from the viewer#

  1. Press Run fresh · N cr.
  2. A confirmation appears: Run fresh for N credits?, explaining that this re-runs the tool for your target with your current settings and uses credits, and reminding you that reopening the saved result is always free.
  3. Confirm with Run fresh · N cr or back out with Cancel. Cancelling costs nothing.
  4. While it works the body reads Running a fresh analysis… with the note that this can take up to a minute.
  5. On success the report is replaced, the sub-line changes to your target followed by just now, and the badge flips from No credits used to Fresh run.

Two special cases:

  • Responsiveness cannot re-run inside the viewer. Its dialog offers Open tool instead, and sends you to the Responsiveness screen with the URL already filled in and the analysis starting.
  • Tools whose input was a file you uploaded do not offer Run fresh at all, because the original file is not stored. Run those from the tool itself.

If you are out of credits the run stops with Monthly limit reached — upgrade to keep running fresh analyses. See Quotas and rate limits.

Delete results#

One at a time

  1. Press Delete on the card.
  2. Confirm at Delete this saved result?, which explains that this permanently removes it from your Library and cannot be undone.
  3. Press Delete. A toast confirms Deleted.

Several at once

  1. Tick the checkbox on each card you want to remove. A selection bar appears showing N selected, with Clear and Delete selected.
  2. Press Delete selected.
  3. Confirm at Delete N saved results?. The confirm button reads Delete N.
  4. A toast confirms N results deleted.
Warning

Warning: Deletion is permanent and there is no undo, no trash and no restore. If you might need the result later, export it first. See Exporting results.

Changing the search or the tool filter clears your selection on purpose, so a bulk delete can never apply to rows you are no longer looking at. Large selections are sent in batches behind the scenes; if any batch does not complete the list is resynchronised from the server rather than assuming the delete worked.

Screen states#

StateWhat you see
Loading the first timeA grid of placeholder folder tiles
Signed outSign in to view your saved work
Load failedCouldn't load your saved work / "Please try again." with a Retry button
A search matches nothing, at the top levelNo matches / "Nothing in your saved work matches that search."
A search matches nothing, inside a folderNo matches / "Nothing in this tool matches your search."
A folder you are in has been emptiedThis tool has nothing saved / "Run it once and the result is filed here.", with a Back to all tools button
Nothing saved yetNo saved work yet / "Run any tool and its result is filed here by tool, so you can reopen it anytime without spending credits again."
A delete failedToast: Couldn't delete — please try again

Deleting the last result in a folder removes the folder too, and the Library takes you back to the top level rather than leaving you standing in something that no longer exists.

Retention#

Saved results are kept for 90 days from the run and are then removed by a scheduled clean-up job. The list itself only ever shows results inside that window, so a run disappearing after three months is expected behavior, not a fault. See Saving a result and Data retention and deletion.

Examples#

Example

Example: You are rebuilding a monthly client deck. Open Saved Work, set the tool filter to Domain Overview, sort Newest first, and open the two most recent runs for that client. Export each as a PDF. Nothing is charged, because every one of those runs was paid for when you made it.

Example

Example: You have run Keyword Explorer forty times while exploring, and the list is noisy. Filter to Keyword Explorer, select the exploratory runs you no longer want, and use Delete selected once. The tool filter count updates to match.

Tips#

  • Search is how you cut across folders. If you are not sure which tool produced something, search from the top level and the Tool column tells you where each hit came from.
  • Search by target, not by tool name. The search box matches what you typed when you ran the tool; the folder is how you narrow by tool.
  • Switch to the list layout when you are comparing dates or costs, and stay in the grid when you are scanning names.
  • Highest cost sort is the fastest way to find the heavyweight reports worth reopening rather than re-running.
  • Use Download JSON when you want the data rather than the layout.

Best Practices#

  • Check Saved Work before running anything expensive. Reopening costs nothing.
  • Delete exploratory runs periodically so the list keeps matching the work you actually care about.
  • Export anything with a lifespan longer than three months on the day you make it.
  • When a client asks "what did it say in June", reopen rather than re-run. A fresh run answers a different question.

Common Mistakes#

  • Deleting to save space. There is no storage quota on Saved Work, so deleting buys you tidiness, not capacity.
  • Expecting a teammate to see your Saved Work. It is per account.
  • Treating Run fresh as free. It is a full run at the tool's current cost.
  • Looking for a run older than 90 days. It has been purged.

Limitations#

  • The folders are the tools. You cannot create, rename, nest or move a folder, and a result always lives in the folder of the tool that produced it. The sections they group under are the app's own and cannot be changed either.
  • No renaming, tagging or starring of individual results.
  • No export directly from a row. Reopen the result, or export from the tool.
  • No bulk export.
  • A folder is not addressable by URL, so you cannot bookmark one or send someone a link to it. The Library does remember the folder you were last in.

FAQs#

Does opening a saved result cost anything? No. Every card carries the Free to reopen badge for exactly this reason.

What does Run fresh cost? The tool's current credit cost, shown on the button as · N cr. See Credit cost table.

Can I get a deleted result back? No. Deletion is permanent and immediate.

Why is my result in a folder I do not recognize? Folders use the tool's friendly name. Merged tools that share a screen still file under the specific tool that ran.

Can I make my own folders? No. The folders are the tools, so they stay accurate on their own and never need tidying. Search is how you cut across them.

How many results are kept? There is no count limit, only the 90-day age limit.

Is Saved Work the same as Report History? No. Saved Work holds reopenable results. Report History is a record of how much you have run. See Report history.

What happened to the Activity tab? It was removed. It recorded what happened rather than what you produced, and it sat in front of the job people actually came here for. See Report history.

Can I share a saved result with a client? Reopen it and use the share link from the live tool result, or export it. See Sharing a result by link and Exporting results.
