Seats and plan limits

How many teammates each plan allows, what consumes a seat, and the exact message you see when the limit is reached.

Last updated 2026-08-06

Summary#

A seat is one invited person in your workspace. Free and Starter include none, Pro includes 4 invites, Agency includes 14, and Enterprise is effectively unlimited. You are never counted against your own allowance, so the headline "5 seats" on Pro means you plus four other people.

Overview#

Seats are checked at one moment only: when you click Send Invite. If the check passes, the invite is created; if it fails, nothing changes and you get a message explaining why. There is no background enforcement, so a plan downgrade never removes anybody — see Downgrades below for what actually happens.

Two things are worth internalising before you plan a rollout. First, a pending invite occupies a seat, because the count includes every row in your team whether or not it has been accepted. Second, seats govern membership only. They do not grant plan capabilities to the people who fill them: credits and feature access follow each person's own account. What teammates share covers that distinction in detail.

Seat allowance by plan#

PlanInvites you can sendTotal people in the workspaceNotes
Free01 (you)The Team screen is visible, but every invite is refused.
Starter01 (you)Same as Free for team purposes.
Pro45The plan is marketed as 5 seats: you plus 4.
Agency1415Marketed as 15 seats.
EnterpriseEffectively unlimitedEffectively unlimitedThe internal ceiling is far above any realistic team size.
Note

Note: The owner is never an invite and never consumes an allowance. If you are on Pro and you can see four other people in Your Team, you are full.

What consumes a seat#

The invite is still PENDING after weeksYes, it keeps holding the seat
The invite is accepted and becomes ACTIVEYes, same seat as before
You remove a member or a pending inviteYes, immediately

You switch into a joined workspaceNo

Joining someone else's workspace costs a seat on their allowance, not yours. This is what makes the agency pattern in Client workspaces work.

Each of the first three arrives with a link to the pricing page. See "This feature requires the ... plan" for the general shape of upgrade prompts, and Error and status codes for the full error inventory.

Upgrades#

Upgrading raises the allowance as soon as the new plan is active on your account. Nothing else is needed: existing members keep their access, and the next invite you send is checked against the new number. See Upgrading and downgrading.

Downgrades#

Downgrading does not remove anyone. Existing members keep working, and their memberships stay in place. What changes is that you can no longer add people until you are back under the new limit, because the check compares your current member count against the new allowance.

If you drop from Agency to Pro with 10 members, all 10 keep their access and every new invite is refused until you remove enough people to get to 3 or fewer. The Metric Vault admin view flags this state as over limit when support looks at your account, so it is visible rather than silent.

Tip

Tip: If you are planning a downgrade, remove the members you no longer need first. That keeps your team consistent with what you are paying for and avoids a confusing period where invites fail for no visible reason.

Where to read your current usage#

WhereWhat it shows
Team Members tile on the Team screenTotal members, including pending. Its sub-line reads N active · N pending.
Your Team listOne row per member with a PENDING or ACTIVE badge.

The Pending Invites and Workspaces Joined tiles currently display each other's number, so use the Team Members sub-line or the badges in the list as the authority for how many invites are outstanding.

Limits that are not seats#

People sometimes reach for the seat number when the constraint is somewhere else. These are separate allowances:
