Cancelling your subscription
Cancel from the billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and the account then returns to Free.
Last updated 2026-08-06
Summary#
You cancel your own subscription from the Stripe billing portal, which you open with the Manage Billing button on the Account page. Cancellation is scheduled for the end of the period you have already paid for, so you keep the plan until then and are not billed again. When the period ends, the account returns to Free and your saved work stays where it is.
Purpose#
Cancelling is self-serve and immediate to arrange, because making people ask permission to stop paying is not how we want to run a subscription. Scheduling it at the end of the paid period rather than the moment you click means you get the time you have already bought, and there is no decision to make about a partial month.
Requirements#
- An active paid subscription.
- Access to the account the subscription is billed to, so the portal can find the right customer record.
Permissions#
Only the person holding the subscription can cancel it. In a team workspace that is the owner. Invited members cannot cancel the workspace's subscription, and removing yourself from a workspace does not cancel anything. See Team and workspace billing.
Navigation Path#
Dashboard → your avatar, top right → Account → Subscription → Manage Billing
The button opens the Stripe billing portal in the same tab and returns you to the Account page when you are finished.
Step-by-Step Guide#
- Open
Accountfrom the user menu in the top right of the dashboard. - On the Subscription card, click Manage Billing. The button briefly reads Opening… while the portal session is created.
- In the portal, choose the cancellation option for your subscription.
- Confirm. The portal shows the date the cancellation takes effect. Check it, because that is the last day you have the plan.
- Close the portal. You are returned to the Account page.
Your plan does not change at this point. It changes when the period ends.
Note: The Metric Vault dashboard does not display a "cancels at period end" state. The portal and Stripe's own confirmation email are where that is shown, so keep the confirmation.
What happens next#
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Immediately after you cancel | Nothing changes. You keep the full plan, the full credit allowance and all seats |
| Between now and the period end | You can carry on working normally. No further charge is raised |
| At the end of the paid period | The subscription ends and the account returns to Free, usually within a few minutes of the subscription closing |
| After that | The zero-credit technical SEO tools keep working. Anything that costs a credit asks for a paid plan |
The change is picked up when Stripe tells us the subscription has ended, and a reconciliation runs regularly as a safety net, so it does not depend on you being signed in at the time.
What you keep#
- Your account. Cancelling does not close or delete it. You can sign in indefinitely on Free.
- Your saved results. Everything in Saved Work stays and can still be opened at no cost, subject to the normal 90-day retention on run results.
- Your history, keywords, competitors and settings. None of it is removed by a cancellation.
- Your team memberships. Members are not removed from the workspace.
What stops is anything the plan was paying for: premium reports, and the capabilities checked against your tier such as white-label branding, scheduled reports, team invitations and API access. See Full plan comparison.
If you want the data removed as well as the billing stopped, that is a separate request. See Deleting your account.
Refunds#
Our terms are:
All payments are final and non-refundable, except where required by applicable law. If you believe a charge was made in error, contact us within 14 days of the charge and we will investigate in good faith.
and
Closing your account does not entitle you to a refund of any prepaid subscription fees.
Because cancellation runs to the end of the period you have paid for, there is normally nothing to refund. If you think a charge was wrong, see Refunds.
Cancelling during a free trial#
Cancel before the last day of the trial and the subscription does not convert, so you are not charged. You keep the plan until the trial's final day. Check the date the portal shows against your trial end date before you close it. See The 14-day free trial.
Coming back#
Subscribe again from the pricing page or the Account page whenever you want. Two things to expect:
- No second trial. The 14-day trial is for first-time customers only, so a returning subscription bills immediately.
- Your work is where you left it, as long as you sign in with the same address and the 90-day result retention has not passed.

Tips#
- Cancel when you have decided, not on the renewal date. There is no advantage to waiting and no penalty for cancelling early, because access runs to the period end either way.
- If your reason is cost, compare annual billing on a lower tier before cancelling entirely. See Plans and pricing.
- Export or save anything you will need later. Run results are retained for 90 days. See Exporting results.
Limitations#
- The portal cancels at period end. It does not offer an immediate cancellation with a partial refund.
- Subscription pausing is not offered.
- Cancelling does not delete your account or your data.
- The app does not show a pending-cancellation state, so keep Stripe's confirmation.
Troubleshooting#
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
You are not on a paid subscription yet, so there is no billing to manage. | The account has no Stripe customer, or the subscription is on a different email address | Confirm which address you paid with, then see Managing billing in the customer portal |
Billing is not switched on for this environment yet. Please contact support@metricvaultai.com. | Billing is not configured on the environment you are using | Contact support at that address |
The billing portal is not set up on our Stripe account yet. We have been notified — please contact support@metricvaultai.com if this persists. | The portal configuration could not be created | Try again shortly, then contact support if it repeats |
| You cancelled but were charged again | The cancellation was not confirmed, or a second subscription is still active | Check the portal for any other active subscription, then see Failed payments and Contacting support |
| The plan dropped to Free earlier than expected | The subscription reached a terminal state before the date you expected | Check the subscription's status and end date in the portal. See Subscription states |
| You cancelled and now want to stay | Cancellation is scheduled, not applied | Subscribe again before the period ends, or contact us. See Subscribing and checkout |
FAQs#
Do I lose access straight away? No. You keep the plan until the end of the period you have paid for.
Will I get a refund for the rest of the month? No. Payments are final, and you keep the plan for the time you paid for. See Refunds.
Does cancelling delete my data? No. Your account, saved results and settings stay. Deletion is a separate request. See Deleting your account.
Does anyone on my team get notified? Not by Metric Vault. Stripe emails the address on the subscription. Tell your team yourself if the plan change affects them.
Can I cancel just some of my seats? No. Seats come with the tier, so reducing them means moving to a lower plan. See Upgrading and downgrading.
I cancelled the wrong subscription. What now? Subscribe again to restore the plan, and contact us with both subscription dates so we can sort out any overlap.
