Deleting your account

How account deletion works today: the Danger Zone button drafts a request to support, the address is on the screen if your mail client does not open, and cancelling your subscription is a separate step you should do first.

Last updated 2026-08-06

Summary#

Account deletion is handled by the support team, not by a button that wipes your data on the spot. The Request deletion button in the Danger Zone opens a pre-written email to support@metricvaultai.com, and the row shows that address as selectable text so you can write to support yourself if no mail client opens. Two things to do first: cancel your subscription, and export anything you want to keep. Deletion is permanent and there is no undo once it has been carried out.

Purpose#

Deleting an account is the one action nobody should be able to take by accident, and the one action that must actually happen when it is requested. Routing it through a request means the destruction is deliberate, that an active subscription is not left billing an account that no longer exists, and that anything shared with a team can be handled properly rather than vanishing from under colleagues.

Requirements#

Before you request deletion:

  • Cancel your subscription. Deletion is a support request and does not stop billing on its own. Use Account → Subscription → Manage Billing to cancel in the Stripe portal. See Cancelling your subscription.
  • Export anything you want to keep. Saved results, reports and exports all go with the account. See Exporting your data.
  • Deal with your team. If people have joined your workspace, they lose access to everything in it. Tell them, and remove the memberships yourself if you would rather do it cleanly. See Removing a member.
  • Check what else points at the account. Scheduled reports, monitored URLs, rank alerts and any public share links you created all belong to it.
  • An email client, or not — the support address is shown on the screen as selectable text, so the request can be sent by hand if nothing opens.

Permissions#

Only the account holder can request deletion of their own account, and the request must come from the address on the account. A workspace owner cannot delete a member's account, and a member cannot delete the owner's. Removing someone from a workspace ends their access to that workspace; it does not touch their account. Administrators do not delete customer accounts from the admin console on their own initiative.

The Danger Zone card is introduced by These actions are permanent and cannot be undone.

Step-by-Step Guide#

  1. Cancel your subscription first, if you have one. Account → Subscription → Manage Billing opens the Stripe billing portal.
  2. Export anything you need. See Exporting your data.
  3. Scroll to the Danger Zone card at the bottom of the Account screen.
  4. The second row reads Delete Account, explains that deletion is handled by the support team and that nothing is removed until support has carried it out, and shows support@metricvaultai.com beneath it. Click Request deletion.
  5. A dialog titled Request account deletion reads Deletion is handled by our support team. This opens a pre-written email for you to send to support@metricvaultai.com. Nothing is deleted until you send it and support has carried it out. The buttons are Open email draft and Cancel. Clicking Cancel stops here and changes nothing.
  6. Choose Open email draft. Your email client opens with a message already addressed to support@metricvaultai.com, with the subject Account deletion request and a body reading Please permanently delete my account (your address) and all associated data.
  7. Send that email. Nothing has happened yet if you do not. The screen says so as soon as the draft is opened: Your account has not been deleted yet. Send the email to complete the request.
  8. Wait for support to confirm. Until then your account continues to work normally.
Important

Important: Nothing on this screen deletes anything. It drafts a message. The deletion happens after you send it and support processes it. The screen says this at every step rather than only here.

If your email client does not open#

Some browsers and machines have no mail application configured, so step 6 does nothing visible. The screen accounts for that: the same message names the address, and the Danger Zone row shows it as selectable text you can copy. Write to support@metricvaultai.com yourself, from the address on the account, with:

  • Subject: Account deletion request
  • The address on the account
  • A clear statement that you want the account and all associated data deleted
  • Whether the subscription has already been cancelled

Examples#

Example

Example: A consultant is closing their practice. They open the Stripe billing portal from Manage Billing and cancel, wait for the confirmation, export their client reports as PDFs from the Library, remove the two colleagues from their workspace, then use Delete Account and send the drafted email. Support confirms the deletion two days later.

Tips#

  • Cancel billing first. Deleting is a request; a live subscription keeps charging until it is cancelled in the billing portal.
  • Export before you request, not after. Once the account is gone the Library goes with it.
  • If you only want to stop paying, cancel rather than delete. A cancelled account still opens, keeps its history and can be upgraded again later. See Cancelling your subscription.
  • If you only want to leave a team, ask that workspace's owner to remove you. That is not an account deletion.

Common Mistakes#

  • Assuming the button deleted the account. It drafts an email. The email has to be sent. The button reads Request deletion and the dialog says so, but the assumption is easy to carry over from other products.
  • Deleting instead of cancelling. If the goal is to stop paying, cancel.
  • Requesting deletion while the subscription is live. Cancel first, or you may be billed for a period on an account you have asked to remove.
  • Forgetting the team. Members lose everything in your workspace when it goes. Tell them first.
  • Requesting from a different address. Support cannot verify a request that did not come from the account's address.

Limitations#

  • Deletion is not instant and not self-service. There is no API route for it; the request is handled by a person.
  • There is no scheduled or delayed deletion, and no grace period you can rely on to change your mind. Treat the sent email as the point of no return.
  • There is no way to delete part of an account, such as one project. Delete individual saved results from the Library instead. See Saved Work.
  • There is no way to transfer a workspace to another person before deleting. Anything a colleague needs should be exported and handed over first.

FAQs#

Can I undo a deletion? No. Once the deletion has been carried out, the account and its data are gone. Before support processes the request you can withdraw it by replying to the same thread.

Does deleting my account cancel my subscription? Do not assume it does. Cancel in the Stripe billing portal via Manage Billing first. See Cancelling your subscription.

Can I keep my reports? Only by exporting them before the account is deleted. See Exporting your data.

What happens to my team? Members of your workspace lose access to everything in it. Their own accounts continue to exist, with their own work intact.

Can I sign up again later with the same email address? A new sign-up creates a fresh account with no history and starts on the Free plan. Nothing from the deleted account comes back.

I only want to leave a workspace I was invited to. Ask that workspace's owner to remove you. See Removing a member. Your own account is untouched.

I need a formal data deletion request for compliance reasons. Send it to support@metricvaultai.com and state that explicitly. See GDPR and compliance.
