Changing the language

Metric Vault ships in six languages. Switch from the sidebar, and the interface plus your tool results are translated as you go.

Last updated 2026-08-06

Summary#

The Metric Vault interface is available in English, Español, Français, Português, Deutsch and Русский. You change it from the language row at the bottom of the left sidebar. The choice is remembered in the browser you are using, and it applies to the interface and to the results your tools produce.

Purpose#

An SEO platform is used across markets, and a team is rarely all reading the same language. Rather than forcing an English-only interface on everyone, Metric Vault translates what you see, including tool output, which is the part most products leave in English. That matters because a report you hand to a client in Madrid or São Paulo is more useful in their language than yours.

Requirements#

  • A signed-in session. The switcher lives inside the app.
  • Nothing plan-related. Every plan, including Free, gets all six languages.
  • A working connection the first time you pick a non-English language, because the translations are fetched then.

Permissions#

Any signed-in user can change their own language at any time. It is a personal display setting: your choice does not change what a teammate sees, and it does not change anything stored on your account. There is no administrator control that pins a workspace to one language.

Sidebar → language row (below the tool list, above your account details)

The sign-in page has its own language menu in its top-right corner, so you can read the sign-in screen in your language before you have a session at all. Both menus write to the same setting in that browser, so a language chosen at sign-in carries into the app.

Step-by-Step Guide#

  1. Look at the bottom of the left sidebar. Above your email address and plan chip there is a row showing a flag and the current language, starting as English.
  2. Click it. A menu lists the six options:

| Option | Language | |---|---| | English | English | | Español | Spanish | | Français | French | | Português | Portuguese | | Deutsch | German | | Русский | Russian |

  1. Choose one. The interface repaints immediately: navigation, buttons, headings and body text change.
  2. The first time you pick a language other than English, Metric Vault fetches its translations. On a slow connection there can be a brief pause before the text swaps. This happens once per browser.
  3. Any tool result already on screen is translated in place as well.
  4. To go back, open the same row and choose English.
Note

Note: The Language row in Account → Preferences is a label showing Display language for the interface. The control that changes the language is the sidebar row.

Examples#

Example

Example: A consultant in Lisbon sets the sidebar language to Português before running a Domain Overview for a client. The tool's headings, the result sections and the recommendation text all render in Portuguese. The client's domain name, the keywords and the URLs stay exactly as they are, because those are data rather than interface text.

What is translated and what is not#

TranslatedLeft as-is
Navigation, section titles and tool namesDomain names, URLs and email addresses
Buttons, form labels and placeholder textKeywords and search phrases you entered
Headings, explanatory copy and tool explainersBrand and company names
Empty states, loading text and error messagesMetric codes and format identifiers
Confirmation dialogs and toastsValues returned by external data providers
Tool results and recommendationsText you wrote yourself, such as report titles

The distinction is between interface and data. Interface text is ours to translate. Your data is yours, and translating a domain name or a tracked keyword would break the thing it refers to.

Tips#

  • Set the language before running a tool if you plan to export or share the result, so the output is generated in the right language from the start.
  • Setting the language on the sign-in page carries it into the app, because both read the same setting in that browser.
  • If a phrase stays in English, that string is simply not in the dictionary yet. Report it and it can be added. See Some text is still in English.

Common Mistakes#

  • Expecting the setting to follow you to another computer. It is stored in the browser. Sign in from a different machine and it starts at English again.
  • Expecting teammates to see your language. They will not; the setting is personal.
  • Looking for the switcher in Account → Preferences. That row is a label. The switcher is in the sidebar.
  • Judging the feature from the first second. The first non-English selection fetches its translations before the text swaps.

Limitations#

  • Six languages: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German and Russian. There is no way to add another yourself.
  • The choice is per browser, not per account.
  • Data values are never translated, by design.
  • Values that come straight from an external data provider appear in whatever language that provider returned.

FAQs#

Does the language affect exported reports? Exports capture what is on screen, so a result generated and exported while the interface is in German comes out in German. Set the language before you run and export.

Does changing the language cost credits? No. It is a display setting.

Can I set a default language for my whole team? No. Each person sets their own, in their own browser.

Which language is used for alert emails? Alert and report emails are sent in English.

Is the language remembered if I sign out? Yes. It is kept in the browser, not in the session, so signing out and back in from the same browser keeps your choice. Clearing site data resets it.

Can more languages be added? Not by a customer. The six shipped languages are the full set today.
