All account settings
Every setting you can change in Metric Vault, its default, where it lives, whether it follows your account or stays in the browser, and what it affects.

Summary#
This is the complete inventory of settings a customer can change, with defaults and dependencies. The most important distinction on this page is between settings that are stored on your account, which follow you to any browser, and settings stored in the browser, which do not. Getting that wrong is the single most common source of "my settings disappeared".
Overview#
Metric Vault has no dedicated settings page. Preferences sit next to the thing they affect: the theme button is in the top bar, the language switcher is in the sidebar, notification switches are on the Account screen, and report branding is on the Integrations screen. This page pulls them all into one list.
Three columns matter when reading the tables:
- Default — what a brand-new account or a brand-new browser starts with.
- Stored — Account means it follows you when you sign in elsewhere. Browser means it is remembered on that machine and that browser only.
- Effect — what actually changes, and what does not.
Settings stored on your account#
These travel with you. Sign in from a new laptop and they are already correct.
| Setting | Where | Default | What it does | Notes and warnings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Display Name | Account → Profile | The full name given at sign-up | The name shown in the user menu | Empty input is rejected with Enter a name first. Saving confirms with Profile saved. See Your profile |
| Email Notifications | Account → Preferences | On | Allows the scheduled report email and the AI Visibility drop email | Does not affect alerts addressed to a recipient you set on a monitored URL or rank alert |
| Weekly Digest | Account → Preferences | On | Stored on your account | No weekly digest email is sent today, so changing it has no visible effect |
| Competitor Alerts | Account → Preferences | On | Shows competitor change items in the notifications feed | Does not stop the Slack, webhook or email alert configured on a monitored URL |
| SEO Score Alerts | Account → Preferences | On | Shows rank drop items in the feed, and permits the AI Visibility drop email | The AI Visibility email also needs Email Notifications on |
| Password | Account → Security → Set Password | None on Google-only accounts | Adds email-and-password sign-in | Minimum 6 characters in the app, 8 in the emailed reset form. See Changing your password |
| Connected sign-in services | Account → Connected Services | Whatever you signed up with | Adds Microsoft or GitHub as a sign-in route | The Google row's Connected badge is part of the card layout, not a live check. The Security tile is the reliable indicator |
The four notification switches save the moment you click them. There is no Save button and no confirmation message. Full detail in Notification preferences.
Settings stored in the browser#
These are remembered per browser and per machine. A new computer, a different browser, a private window, or clearing site data all reset them to the defaults below.
| Setting | Where | Default | What it does | Notes and warnings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Theme | Top bar theme button, mirrored by Dark Mode in Account → Preferences | Light | Switches the whole app between light and dark | Exports and share links capture the theme active at the time. See Light and dark mode |
| Interface language | Sidebar language row | English | Translates the interface and tool results into one of six languages | The Language row in Account → Preferences is a label, not the control. See Changing the language |
| Target country | Top bar country picker, tooltip Target country for analysis | United States | Sets the market that country-aware tools analyze | Type in the picker to filter the list, or press Enter to take the first match. Picking a different country asks you to confirm, then shows a brief Updating analysis settings… screen and a confirmation message. Changing it changes the data a tool returns. Set it before running, not after |
| Date range | Top bar segmented control labelled Range | 6M | Sets the time window on time-series tools. Options are 6M, 12M, 24M, 5Y and Custom | The control is only shown on tools that plot a trend; it is hidden everywhere else |
| Active workspace | Team → Workspaces You've Joined → Switch | Your own workspace | Changes which monitored URLs, saved work and reports you see | Switching reloads the page. Your plan, usage and account settings do not change. See Workspaces explained |
| Favorites | Star icon in the top bar | Empty | Pins domains you check repeatedly, up to 20 | Cleared with the browser's site data |
| Recent analyses | Star icon in the top bar | Empty | Lists the last 12 targets you ran, most recent first | Clicking one reopens the tool with the target prefilled |
| Recent tools in the command palette | Ctrl + K | Empty | Lists your last 8 tools when the search box is empty | See The command palette (Ctrl+K) |
| Guided tour | Runs once for a new account | Not yet seen | The six-step introduction to the interface | Once finished or skipped it does not reappear in that browser. See The guided tour |
| Sidebar collapsed or expanded | Collapse button on the icon rail, tooltip Collapse menu / Expand menu | Expanded | Hides the tool list to widen the working area | Not remembered; it returns to expanded on the next page load |
Warning: Because theme, language, country and active workspace live in the browser, a colleague who signs in on your machine inherits your display settings, and you inherit theirs when you sign in on theirs. Check the country picker and the workspace banner before running anything expensive on a shared computer.
Values shown on the Account screen that you cannot change#
| Field | What it shows | Why it is read-only |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | The address the account is filed under | It is the account key. See Changing your email address |
| Avatar | The first two characters of your email address | There is no image upload for profiles |
| Plan tile and plan badge | Your live plan | Changed by upgrading or downgrading. See Upgrading and downgrading |
| Usage tile | Credits used this month against your allowance | Derived from your usage. See Tracking your usage |
| Security tile | Secure when the account has a password, Google only when it does not, with 2FA off | Reflects your sign-in methods. Set a password to change it |
| Member Since tile | The month and year the account was created | Fixed at sign-up |
| Active Sessions row | A label for the Log Out All button | Metric Vault does not list individual devices. See Sessions and signing out |
Settings that live elsewhere in the app#
Not everything configurable is on the Account screen. These are the settings customers most often go looking for in the wrong place.
| Setting | Where it actually lives | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Company name, logo, brand colors, custom footer, and hiding Metric Vault branding | Account & Team → Integrations → White-label Branding | Every exported PDF and every public share page. See White-label reports |
| Google Search Console and Analytics connection | Account & Team → Integrations | Whether tools show measured data alongside estimates. See Google Search Console |
| Social channel connections | Account & Team → Integrations → Connected channels | Publishing and scheduling. See Connecting social accounts |
| Alert channels for a monitored URL: Slack webhook, JSON webhook, email recipient, severity gate, check interval | On each monitored URL in Competitor Monitor | Where competitor change alerts are delivered. See Competitor monitor |
| Drop threshold for a tracked keyword | On each alert in Rank Alerts | When a rank drop counts as an alert. See Rank alerts |
| Recipient address and cadence for a scheduled report | On each schedule in Scheduled Reports | Who receives the report and how often. See Scheduled reports |
| Team members and their roles | Account & Team → Team | Who shares your workspace. See Inviting teammates |
| Payment method, invoices, cancellation | Account → Subscription → Manage Billing | Handled in the Stripe billing portal. See Managing billing in the customer portal |
Settings that do not exist#
| Not available | What to do instead |
|---|---|
| A time zone setting | Quota resets and daily checks are stated in UTC where they appear |
| A default tool or landing view | Each section opens its first tool automatically |
| Email frequency, digest scheduling or quiet hours | Use the four notification switches, or a scheduled report for a recurring summary |
| A workspace-wide default for theme, language or country | Each person sets their own, in their own browser |
| Two-factor authentication, SSO, or a per-device session list | See Account security |
| A profile photo upload | The avatar is always your initials |
| An email address change control | See Changing your email address |
