Your profile
Every field on the Account screen, what each one shows, and how to change your display name, your profile photo and your connected sign-in services.

Summary#
The Account screen is the single place where Metric Vault shows you who you are signed in as, which plan you are on, how many credits you have used this month, and how long you have been a customer. Two things on it are editable by you: your Display Name and your profile photo. This article walks through every card on the screen so you know what each number means and which parts you can change.
Purpose#
Most of what an SEO platform shows you is about a domain. This screen is about you. It exists so that you never have to guess which account you are working in, which plan is actually active, or how close you are to your monthly limit before starting a large piece of work. It also collects the account-level actions that would otherwise be scattered: password, sessions, subscription, preferences, connected sign-in services and account deletion.
Requirements#
- A Metric Vault account you are signed in to.
- Nothing else. Every plan, including Free, can open this screen.
The plan and usage figures come from your live subscription and this month's usage, so they need a working connection. If the request fails, the Plan and Usage tiles fall back to a dash rather than showing a stale number.
Permissions#
Any signed-in user can view and edit their own profile. There is no team role that lets one person edit another person's display name or photo.
Administrators can. Any active admin can set a customer's display name, upload a photo for them or remove one, from the Customers screen of the admin console. This exists so support can fix a name or a photo for someone who cannot do it themselves. Every such change is written to the audit log against the admin who made it, and the result is the same record you edit here, so a name or photo set by support appears on this screen the next time you open it. See Customer lookup and billing.
If you have switched into a workspace you were invited to, the Account screen still shows your account: your email, your plan and your usage. Workspace switching changes which monitored URLs, reports and saved work you see, not who you are. See Workspaces explained.
Navigation Path#
Dashboard → Account & Team → Account
You can also reach it from the user menu: click your name in the top-right corner and choose Account.
Step-by-Step Guide#
Change your display name#
- Open the Account screen.
- In the Profile card, find Display Name with the helper text How your name appears across the platform. It is prefilled with the name on your account, which is the full name you entered when you signed up.
- Type the name you want.
- Click Save Changes.
- A confirmation appears:
Profile saved. The name in the top-right corner of the app updates on your next page load.
If the field is empty when you click Save, Metric Vault shows Enter a name first. and nothing is saved. If the save cannot be completed, you see Could not save profile.
Add or change your profile photo#
- Open the Account screen.
- In the Profile card, the circle at the top left is your photo. Until you set one it shows the first two characters of your email address.
- Click Upload photo, or click the circle itself, and pick an image. You can also drag an image file straight onto the circle.
- A spinner covers the circle while the upload runs. When it finishes the photo replaces the initials and a confirmation reads
Profile photo updated.
The photo appears in three places at once: this card, the account chip at the bottom of the sidebar, and the user chip in the top-right corner.
Accepted formats are PNG, JPG, WEBP and GIF. The limit is 2 MB, but you will rarely meet it: images are resized to 512 pixels in your browser before they are sent, so a photo straight off a phone arrives as a few tens of kilobytes. An animated GIF is uploaded unchanged and keeps its animation.
To take the photo down, click Remove photo and confirm. The circle goes back to your initials everywhere and the stored image is deleted. Remove photo only appears when you have a photo set.
Connect another sign-in service#
- Scroll to the Connected Services card.
- Each row names a service and what it is for: Google (Sign in with Google), Microsoft (Sign in with Microsoft) and GitHub (Connect for code integrations).
- Click Connect on the row you want and complete the provider's sign-in screen. You are returned to the dashboard afterwards.
If the connection cannot be started you see Could not connect: followed by the provider's own message. If your session has expired you see You are not signed in. — sign in again and retry.
Note: The Google row shows a Connected badge as part of the card's layout. It is not a live check of which providers your account uses. The authoritative signal is the Security tile at the top of the screen, which reads Secure with the sub-line password set · 2FA off when your account has an email password, and Google only with no password set · 2FA off when it does not.
What each card shows#
The four tiles at the top#
| Tile | What it shows | Sub-line |
|---|---|---|
| Plan | Your current plan name: Free, Starter, Pro, Agency or Enterprise | current subscription |
| Usage | Credits used and your monthly allowance, as used / quota, or Unlimited on internal accounts | credits this month, or internal account |
| Security | Secure when the account has an email password, Google only when it does not | password set · 2FA off or no password set · 2FA off |
| Member Since | The month and year the account was created | join date |
The usage figure counts every credit spent this month across all metered tools and resets on the first of the month, UTC. Tracking your usage explains how the count is built and How credits work explains what a credit buys.

Troubleshooting#
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Plan and Usage both show a dash | The usage request did not complete | Reload the page. If it persists, see The dashboard is stuck loading |
| The plan shown is not the plan you bought | The subscription change has not finished syncing | Wait a few minutes and reload; if it is still wrong, see My plan did not update after paying |
Enter a name first. | The Display Name box was empty | Type a name, then click Save Changes |
Could not save profile. | The save request failed | Reload and try again; check that you are still signed in |
| Your name in the top bar has not changed | The header reads the name once per page load | Reload the page |
| The email address is wrong | You are signed in to a different account | Sign out and sign back in with the right address |
Choose a PNG, JPG, WEBP or GIF image. | The file you picked is not one of the accepted image formats | Convert it, or pick a different image |
That image is larger than 2 MB. Please pick a smaller one. | The image was still over the limit after resizing, which usually means a very large animated GIF | Use a still image, or crop it first |
Could not upload that photo. | The upload request failed | Check your connection and try again |
| There is no Upload photo button | Photo storage is not switched on for this environment. The hint text says so | Nothing you can do; contact support |
| Your photo uploaded but the circle still shows initials | The image could not be decoded, so the initials were kept rather than showing a broken picture | Re-upload, or try a different file |
FAQs#
Can I upload a profile photo? Yes. Use Upload photo in the Profile card, or drag an image onto the circle. This is separate from the logo you upload for white-label report branding — see White-label reports.
Who can see my profile photo? The image is served from a web address that contains a long random identifier, so it cannot be found by guessing and is not linked to your email address in any way a visitor can see. Anyone holding that exact address can load the image, so treat it as public rather than private. Uploading a new photo changes the address and deletes the old file.
Where does the Display Name appear? In the user menu in the top-right corner of the app. It is stored with your sign-in identity, so it follows you to any browser you sign in from.
Why can I not edit my email address here? Your email address is the key that ties together your plan, your usage, your saved work and any workspaces you belong to, so it is not a self-service field. Changing your email address explains what to do instead.
Does the Usage tile include free tools? It counts credits spent. The technical SEO tools that are free on every plan cost nothing, so they do not move the number. How credits work lists what each tool costs.
I am an administrator. Can I edit a customer's profile? You can set their display name, upload a photo for them and remove one, from the Customers screen. Those three are open to any active admin, not owners only, because they are support work rather than account control. Plan changes, usage resets, refunds, suspension and seat removal are still owner-only. Everything is audited. See Customer lookup and billing.
