Changing your email address
Your email address identifies your account across plan, usage, saved work and team membership, so changing it is handled by support rather than self-service.

Summary#
The email address on the Profile card is read-only. There is no self-service control anywhere in Metric Vault that changes it, because that address is the identifier every other part of your account is filed under. If you need a different address on the account, write to support@metricvaultai.com. If you only want a different name shown in the app, change your Display Name instead, which is instant and self-service.
Purpose#
In most products an email address is a contact detail. In Metric Vault it is the account key. Your plan, your monthly credit usage, every saved result, every monitored URL, every scheduled report, your notification preferences, any API keys, and every workspace you own or have joined are all stored against that one address. Changing it is therefore a data migration rather than an edit, which is why it is not a text box.
Requirements#
- To change your display name: you are signed in. Nothing else.
- To request an address change: access to the mailbox for the current address, so support can confirm the request came from you.
Permissions#
Nobody can change your address from inside the product. There is no administrator action that reassigns a customer's email, and the admin console's customer controls are limited to plan, usage, credit refunds, suspension and team seat removal. Requests are handled by the support team.
Navigation Path#
To see the address on file:
Dashboard → Account & Team → Account → Profile
To change how your name appears:
Dashboard → Account & Team → Account → Profile → Display Name → Save Changes
Step-by-Step Guide#
If you want a different name shown in the app#
- Open the Account screen.
- Type the name into Display Name (How your name appears across the platform).
- Click Save Changes and wait for
Profile saved.
This changes the name in the user menu. It does not change the address you sign in with. Full steps are in Your profile.
If you want a different sign-in method on the same account#
- Open the Account screen and find Connected Services.
- Click Connect next to Microsoft or GitHub and complete that provider's sign-in.
- To add an email-and-password route to an account that only has Google, use Set Password on the Security card. See Changing your password.
These add ways to sign in. They do not change the address the account is filed under.
If you genuinely need the address changed#
- Send a message to
support@metricvaultai.comfrom the current address on the account. Sending from the new address gives support nothing to verify against. - State the current address, the new address, and whether the old mailbox will keep working.
- Wait for a reply before changing anything else on the account. Do not cancel a subscription or create a second account in the meantime — a second account starts on the Free plan with its own empty history and cannot be merged with the first.
Important: Until the change is complete, keep signing in with the old address. If you sign up again with the new address you get a separate, empty account, and the two cannot be combined.
What an address change affects#
| Area | What is tied to the address | What you should expect |
|---|---|---|
| Plan and subscription | Your plan is stored against the address, and your Stripe customer record is separate again | The billing record has to be moved too, or the plan will not follow |
| Credit usage | The month-to-date usage counter is per address | Usage history is filed under the old address |
| Saved work and reports | Every saved result is owned by the address | Export anything you must keep first — see Exporting your data |
| Monitored URLs, rank alerts, schedules | Owned by the address | These are what break most visibly if only part of the move happens |
| Team membership | Invitations are issued to a specific address, and membership rows pair an owner address with a member address | Owners must re-invite you at the new address; see Inviting teammates |
| Notification preferences | Stored per address | Recheck the four toggles afterwards — see Notification preferences |
| API keys | Issued to the address | Existing keys stop being useful; create replacements. See API keys |
| Alert recipients | Competitor Monitor, rank alerts and scheduled reports each carry their own recipient address, set per item | These are not your account address and do not change automatically |
That last row is worth repeating: the address a scheduled report is emailed to, and the address a Competitor Monitor alert goes to, are set on each item individually. If you are only trying to change where alerts land, edit those items directly — no account change is needed. See Scheduled reports and Competitor monitor.

Common Mistakes#
- Creating a second account at the new address. It starts empty on the Free plan, and there is no merge. Ask support first.
- Changing the address on the mailbox instead. If the old mailbox stops receiving mail, password resets and alerts stop arriving even though the account still works.
- Assuming alert emails follow the account address. They do not. Each alert and schedule carries its own recipient.
- Cancelling the subscription before the move. Cancelling first means the new address has no plan to inherit.
Troubleshooting#
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The email field cannot be clicked | It is read-only by design | Change Display Name instead, or contact support for the address itself |
| A new account shows the Free plan and no history | You signed up again rather than moving the original account | Sign back in with the original address and contact support |
| Reset emails go to an inbox you no longer control | The account address is out of date | Contact support from any address you can still prove ownership of, and explain the situation |
| A teammate's invite went to the wrong address | Invitations are matched on the exact address | The workspace owner should remove the pending invite and send a new one. See Removing a member |
| Scheduled reports still email the old address | Recipients are set per schedule | Edit each schedule's recipient field |
FAQs#
Can I add a second email address to one account? No. An account has one address. You can add extra sign-in providers, but they all resolve to the same account.
Will my saved work move with me? Ask support to confirm before you rely on it. If anything is critical, export it first — Exporting your data lists every export route.
I am on a team. Does my workspace access move? Workspace membership pairs an owner address with a member address, so the owner needs to invite you again at the new address once the change is done. See Inviting teammates.
Does changing my address change my password? No, and you should not need to reset it. If you cannot sign in after a change, use the reset flow in Changing your password.
What if I just want alerts to go somewhere else? Change the recipient on the individual alert or schedule. Your account address does not need to change at all.
