Sessions and signing out

How Metric Vault keeps you signed in, how to sign out of this browser, and how to end every session on every device at once.

Last updated 2026-08-06

Summary#

When you sign in, Metric Vault stores a session in the browser you signed in with. That session keeps you signed in across page loads and browser restarts, and it renews itself in the background so you are not interrupted mid-task. Log Out ends the session in the browser you are using. Log Out All on the Account screen ends every session for your account, on every browser and device, in one action.

Purpose#

Two problems this solves. The first is convenience: a long SEO audit should not be interrupted by a sign-in screen, so the session refreshes itself quietly while you work. The second is control: if you have signed in on a shared computer, a phone you no longer have, or a machine you cannot get back to, you need one button that invalidates all of it without waiting for anything to expire.

Requirements#

  • To sign out of the current browser: nothing, the control is always available.
  • To use Log Out All: you must be signed in, on any plan.
  • Your browser must allow site storage. A browser in a strict private mode, or one that clears site data on close, will sign you out every time you leave.

Permissions#

Every plan can sign out and use Log Out All. You can only end your own sessions. Metric Vault has no administrator control that force-signs-out another account, so if a customer needs their sessions ended, they must run Log Out All themselves.

Sign out of this browser:

Sidebar → Log Out

or

Top-right user menu → Log out

Sign out everywhere:

Dashboard → Account & Team → Account → Security → Log Out All

Step-by-Step Guide#

Sign out of the browser you are using#

  1. Click Log Out at the bottom of the left sidebar, or open the user menu in the top-right corner and choose Log out.
  2. Your session ends and you are taken to the sign-in page.

That is all it does. Sessions in other browsers and on other devices keep working.

Sign out everywhere#

  1. Open Account and find the Security card.
  2. The second row is Active Sessions. Click Log Out All.
  3. A dialog asks Log out of this account on all devices?. Confirm with Log out.
  4. Every session for your account ends, including the one you are using, and you are taken to the sign-in page.
  5. Sign in again wherever you still want to be signed in.
Warning

Warning: Log Out All includes the browser you are sitting in front of. Expect to sign in again immediately. Any unsaved input in a form is lost, so finish or run what you were working on first. Completed tool results are already saved to your Library and are unaffected.

Sign back in#

  1. Go to the sign-in page.
  2. Enter your Email Address and Password, or click Continue with Google.
  3. You land back on the dashboard with your workspace, saved work and preferences intact.

If sign-in fails, the page shows Invalid email or password for every kind of failure, so read I cannot sign in before concluding the password is wrong.

How the session behaves#

BehaviorWhat actually happens
Staying signed inThe session is stored in the browser you signed in with, and survives closing the tab and restarting the browser
RenewalWhile a Metric Vault tab is open, the session refreshes itself shortly before it would expire, so you are not signed out mid-task
Coming back after a long gapIf the stored session has expired, opening the app refreshes it; if it cannot be refreshed, you see the sign-in screen
Per-browserSigning in on your laptop does not sign you in on your phone. Each browser holds its own session
API requestsRequests the app makes on your behalf carry your session, which is how the server knows the work is yours
Signing out in one tabOther tabs of the same browser follow, because they share the same stored session
Private or incognito windowsThe session is discarded when the window closes
Clearing browser dataClears the session. You sign in again

The signed-out screen#

If you open the dashboard without a valid session, a full-screen panel appears with the heading Sign in to continue and the line Your Metric Vault dashboard is protected. Please sign in to access your tools. It offers a Sign In button and a Back to homepage link. The panel waits a moment before appearing, so a sign-in that is still completing is not interrupted by it.

If a sign-in through Google did not finish, the same screen adds a red note reading Sign-in did not complete: followed by the provider's explanation.

If a browser extension has blocked the sign-in code from loading at all, you see: Could not load the sign-in library. An ad blocker, privacy extension or network filter is the usual cause. Allow this site and reload.

Tips#

  • Use Log Out All after any password change if you want certainty that no older session survives.
  • On a shared or public computer, sign out with the sidebar button when you finish rather than just closing the tab.
  • If a device is lost or stolen, Log Out All is the fastest response, then change your password. See Changing your password.
  • Metric Vault does not list individual devices or sessions, so there is no way to end one and keep the others. Log Out All is the tool for this job.

Limitations#

  • There is no per-device session list and no way to sign out one device individually.
  • The Active Sessions row on the Security card is a label for the Log Out All button, not a live device count. Do not read a number off it.
  • Sessions cannot be ended by an administrator or by support on your behalf.
  • Two-factor authentication is not offered today. See Account security.

FAQs#

How long does a session last? Long enough that day-to-day work is not interrupted, and it renews itself while you have the app open. There is no fixed number to plan around. If you want a session gone now, end it deliberately with Log Out or Log Out All.

Does Log Out All log my teammates out? No. It only affects your own account. Teammates keep their own sessions. To remove someone's access to your workspace, remove their membership — see Removing a member.

Will I lose work if I sign out? Completed tool results are saved to your Library and survive signing out. Text you have typed into a form but not yet run is lost.

Can support sign me out remotely? No. There is no force-logout for support or administrators. Run Log Out All yourself.

Does suspending an account end its sessions? No. A suspended account can still sign in and open the dashboard, but any tool run that costs credits is refused with This account is suspended. Please contact support.
