Social Analytics

Measures a brand's public social footprint from Facebook page likes, Pinterest pins, Reddit mentions and indexed web-mention sentiment, across two tabs — Social Tracker and Social Analysis.

Last updated 2026-08-06

Summary#

Social Analytics measures the public social footprint of any brand or domain. It reports the follower and mention signals that can be verified — Facebook page likes, Pinterest pins, Reddit mentions and indexed web mentions with their sentiment split — and says plainly which platforms it cannot measure.

Purpose#

Social reporting usually asks you to trust a number nobody can check. Follower counts for platforms with no public API are the worst offenders: they look precise and are frequently invented.

This tool takes the opposite position. It measures what a data provider can actually see about a public brand, shows it, and states which platforms are excluded and why. It answers "does this brand have a real owned audience and is the conversation around it positive" rather than pretending to be a social analytics suite plugged into your accounts.

Overview#

The sidebar entry Social Analytics opens the view as Social Media Tracker, with a tab strip at the top offering two tools:

TabToolCostRun button
Social TrackerSocial Media Tracker3 creditsTrack Social · 3 reports
Social AnalysisSocial Analytics1 creditAnalyze · 1 report

Both take the same input — a domain such as nike.com — and both are measured from the same provider calls: Facebook page likes, Pinterest pins and Reddit mentions for the domain. Social Tracker adds two more calls: recent Google News coverage of the brand name, and an indexed web-mention summary with a positive/neutral/negative split.

Neither tab runs your text through a language model. When the provider returns data it is served directly; when it returns nothing you get an explicit no-data result rather than a plausible-looking invention.

The two tabs differ in presentation. Social Analysis is the plain reading of the measured signals. Social Tracker wraps the same signals in a fuller report layout, including panels that illustrate rather than measure — the section below says exactly which.

Benefits#

  • Verifiable numbers: page likes, pins, mention counts and a sentiment split that come from an index, not from a model.
  • An honest empty state that names the platforms it covers instead of filling the gap with numbers.
  • Works on any public brand, including competitors — no account connection needed.
  • The cheaper tab gives you the measured core for a single credit.
  • Sentiment on indexed web mentions, which is the closest thing here to a reputation reading.

Use Cases#

  • Competitor footprint check. Run a rival's domain to see whether their Facebook audience and Pinterest presence are real assets or a rounding error.
  • Reputation snapshot. The positive/neutral/negative split on indexed mentions tells you the tone of the conversation before a campaign launches.
  • Pinterest opportunity scan. A high pin count on a domain that ignores Pinterest is a distribution channel already working without you.
  • Reddit surface check. A non-zero Reddit mention count means there is a community conversation to join.
  • Pitch groundwork. Running three prospects gives a defensible comparison of who has an owned audience worth building on.

Requirements#

  • A signed-in Metric Vault account.
  • A paid plan. The Free plan covers the zero-credit technical tools only.
  • Available credits: 3 for Social Tracker, 1 for Social Analysis. See How credits work.
  • A domain to analyze. A bare brand name works, but a root domain such as nike.com matches the provider's index far more reliably.

Cost#

  • Social Tracker: 3 credits per run, printed on the button as Track Social · 3 reports. At 3 credits it is a premium report, so it is metered against your monthly allowance and will be blocked once that allowance is spent.
  • Social Analysis: 1 credit per run, printed as Analyze · 1 report. As a light tool it is recorded in your usage but never blocked by the monthly allowance — only by the fair-use limit of 100 light calls per hour.

A result served from the shared data cache still charges the full credit. That cache holds Social Tracker for one day and Social Analysis for two. Reopening a saved result from the Library is free. See How credits work and Result caching and freshness.

Dashboard → Promote → Social Analytics

Then use the tab strip at the top of the view to switch between Social Tracker and Social Analysis.

Step-by-Step Guide#

  1. Open Dashboard → Promote → Social Analytics.
  2. Choose a tab. Start with Social Analysis at 1 credit if you only need the measured signals.
  3. Type a root domain, for example nike.com.
  4. Press the run button — Analyze · 1 report or Track Social · 3 reports — or press Enter in the input.
  5. If you have run this domain before, choose Open saved result (free) or Run fresh.
  6. Read the Platform Breakdown first; it is the measured layer.
  7. Read Key Insights and the Action Plan for the interpretation.
  8. Export from the row at the top of the screen, or open the recommendation panel below the result for a fuller plan. See Get Recommendations.

Reading the Results#

The Social Analysis tab#

The header shows the domain with its favicon, a Social Analytics badge and Scanned just now.

Total Followers is the only headline tile, and it is a sum of three different things: Facebook page likes plus Pinterest pins plus the number of Reddit mentions found. Its subtitle names how many platforms contributed. Do not quote it as a follower count — quote the rows underneath instead.

Platform Breakdown is the measured core of the report:

ColumnWhat it holdsHow to read it
PlatformFacebook, Pinterest or RedditOnly platforms with a non-zero value appear
FollowersThe measured numberPage likes, pins or mention count depending on the row
SignalPage likes, Pins or Mentions foundThis column is what stops the number being misread

A Facebook row above roughly 10,000 page likes is a genuine owned-audience asset and is treated as such in the insights. A few hundred means the page exists but is not a distribution channel yet. A high Pinterest pin count means people are saving this domain's images — that is free visual-search distribution most brands never notice. A non-zero Reddit count means organic community conversation exists.

Key Insights turns those numbers into sentences, each carrying a tone: green for a strength, neutral for an observation, amber for something to watch.

Action Plan closes the report with concrete next steps — cross-promoting to the Facebook audience, adding Pinterest Save buttons, monitoring the Reddit mentions — and always names the coverage gap: Instagram, X and YouTube need platform-specific API access and are not shown.

The honest empty state. When nothing is found, the report says so: No public Facebook, Pinterest or Reddit data was found for "<query>" via DataForSEO. Instagram, X, YouTube and TikTok require platform-specific API access for follower data and are intentionally not shown to avoid fabricated numbers. Treat that as information, not a failure — it usually means the brand has no public Facebook page rather than that the tool broke.

The Social Tracker tab#

The same measured signals, presented as a fuller report with two extra measured inputs: total indexed web mentions and their sentiment split.

The header carries a Verified · DataForSEO mark and a sentiment badge: Healthy Sentiment when positive mentions are 45% or more, Mixed Sentiment from 30%, and Critical Sentiment below that. That badge is the fastest reputation read on the page.

The four tiles.

  • Total Followers — the same combined signal, labelled across 6 platforms.
  • Web Mentions — the count of indexed mentions of the brand, labelled last 30 days. This is the number to trend over time.
  • Positive Sentiment — the positive share of measured mentions. Below 30% is worth investigating in Brand Monitor, which shows the mentions themselves.
  • Avg Engagement — a weighted display figure, not a measurement of your posts.

Sentiment Mix charts the positive, neutral and negative split of those indexed mentions. Its subtitle names the source: content analysis. This panel and the Web Mentions tile are the two most trustworthy things on the Tracker tab.

What is illustration rather than measurement. The Tracker's remaining panels are built to give the report shape, from the measured signals plus fixed assumptions. They are not per-platform measurements and should not be quoted as such:

  • Platform Breakdown lists six platforms — X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok — with follower splits, engagement percentages, posts per week and profile links. Only figures the provider actually returned are measured; the rest is a modelled distribution, and the profile links are constructed from the brand name rather than verified.
  • Mention Trend draws a twelve-month line shaped from the current mention volume. The current volume is real; the historical curve is not a measured history.
  • Top Branded Hashtags shows tags with usage counts. These are illustrative.
  • Top Performing Posts shows six post cards with reach and engagement figures. These are examples of post types, not your actual posts.

Use the Tracker for the sentiment reading, the mention volume and the report layout. Use the Social Analysis tab, or Brand Monitor, when you need numbers that will be challenged.

The action row under the tiles offers Export report, Mention alert and Schedule weekly.

Examples#

Example

Example: You run shopify.com on the Social Analysis tab for 1 credit. Total Followers reads 1.2M across 2 platforms. Platform Breakdown shows Facebook at 934,000 with the signal Page likes and Pinterest at 271,000 with the signal Pins; Reddit does not appear, so no Reddit mentions were found for the domain itself. Key Insights flags the Facebook audience as a real distribution asset and the pin count as strong visual discoverability. Your read: their Facebook page is a genuine owned channel worth benchmarking against, Pinterest is doing work nobody is claiming credit for, and you should run Brand Monitor for the conversation itself rather than expecting it here.

Tips#

  • Start on the Social Analysis tab. It costs a third as much and carries the same measured signals.
  • Always enter a root domain. Bare brand names match the index far less reliably.
  • Read the Signal column before quoting any number from Platform Breakdown.
  • Track Web Mentions and Positive Sentiment over months. A single reading tells you less than a trend.
  • Pair with Brand Monitor for the actual mentions and Influencer Analysis for who is driving them.

Best Practices#

  • Quote the measured rows — page likes, pins, mention count, sentiment split — and leave the illustrative panels out of client deliverables.
  • Run competitors the same week, so the shared cache window does not put one reading days ahead of another.
  • Treat an empty result as a finding about the brand's public footprint, not as an error to retry.
  • Use the Range and Country selectors consistently; both are part of the cache key, so changing them changes what a re-run returns.
  • Follow a poor sentiment reading into the mentions themselves before drawing a conclusion.

Common Mistakes#

  • Reading Total Followers as followers. It sums page likes, pins and Reddit mentions.
  • Quoting the six-platform Tracker breakdown as measured. Only the provider's own figures are measured; the rest is a modelled display.
  • Expecting Instagram, X, YouTube or TikTok numbers. Those platforms have no bulk-queryable public source and are deliberately omitted.
  • Assuming this reads your own accounts. It measures public signals for any domain and is not connected to the channels you linked on the Social Dashboard.
  • Clicking a TRY chip to look around. Chips run for real and charge credits.
  • Re-running to "get more data". Inside the cache window you will get the same answer and pay again.

Limitations#

  • Coverage is Facebook pages, Pinterest accounts and Reddit for the follower and mention signals, plus indexed web mentions and Google News for the Tracker tab.
  • Instagram, X, YouTube and TikTok follower data is not available and is not shown.
  • The mention summary and its sentiment split are computed from indexed web content, not from social platform APIs.
  • Sentiment is a positive/neutral/negative classification of indexed mentions, not a nuanced reputation score.
  • The Tracker's per-platform table, engagement rates, posting cadence, profile links, twelve-month mention trend, hashtag figures and top-post cards are illustrative, not measured.
  • Neither tab reads your own connected accounts, so it cannot report on your posts.
  • Results are cached for one day (Tracker) and two days (Analysis), and a cache hit still charges.

FAQs#

Which platforms does this actually measure? Facebook page likes, Pinterest pins and Reddit mentions for the domain, plus indexed web mentions with a sentiment split and recent Google News coverage on the Social Tracker tab.

Why are Instagram, X, YouTube and TikTok missing? There is no publicly bulk-queryable source for their follower data. Rather than estimate, the tool leaves them out and says so in the result.

Which tab should I run? Social Analysis, at 1 credit, for the measured signals. Social Tracker, at 3 credits, when you also want mention volume, the sentiment split and the fuller report layout.

Does a cached result still cost a credit? Yes. A shared-cache hit charges the full cost. Only reopening your own saved result from the Library is free.

Can I analyze a competitor? Yes. Everything here is public data and no account connection is involved.

Does it show my own posts? No. It measures a brand's public footprint. For your own connected channels, see Social Dashboard.

Why does the Tracker show six platforms when only three are measured? The Tracker's report layout fills a six-platform table for shape. Treat the provider-returned figures as measured and the rest as illustration.
