Meta Generator
Writes and scores five title-tag and five meta-description variants for a page, previews them as a Google result, and adds ready-to-paste social copy.
Last updated 2026-08-06
Summary#
Meta Generator writes five title-tag variants and five meta-description variants for a page you give it the URL of, scores each out of 100, previews them as they would appear in Google, and adds social copy for X, LinkedIn and Facebook. Its internal tool id is meta_generator and it costs 1 credit.
Purpose#
Your title tag and meta description are the only part of a page most searchers ever read. A page can rank third and still lose the click to a better-written snippet below it.
This tool exists to make that copy deliberate rather than an afterthought. The decision it supports is which snippet to ship — with a score behind the choice and a preview of how it will actually look.
Overview#
You paste the page's URL. Metric Vault fetches that page and reads its current title, meta description, headings and opening copy, then grounds the request on the live search results for the topic — the real ranking titles and descriptions, related keyword suggestions and a difficulty score — then writes variants that compete with what is already there.
Each variant comes back with its character length, a 0-100 score, the angle it takes, and a short rationale for why it was written that way. Titles are written to a 50-60 character target and descriptions to 150-160, because those are the lengths Google usually shows in full.
The result is a set of options with a defensible reason to pick one, not a single suggestion you have to trust.
Benefits#
- Ten scored options in one run, rather than one suggestion.
- A live Google-style preview, so you see truncation before you publish it.
- Character counts against the real display limits on every variant.
- Social copy for three networks generated at the same time.
- One-click export of every variant as a spreadsheet-ready file.
- 1 credit per run, below the monthly premium threshold.
Use Cases#
Launching a new page. Generate the snippet at the same time as the content, rather than typing something into the CMS at the last minute.
Recovering click-through on a page that ranks but does not get clicked. A page in position four with a weak snippet is the cheapest traffic win available.
Rewriting a batch of thin snippets. Run the tool per page and export the variants for whoever updates the CMS.
Giving a writer options. Five titles with different angles is a better brief than "make it catchier."
Filling in social cards. The social variants are written per platform and sized for it.
Requirements#
- A signed-in account.
- A paid plan — 1 credit per run, and any cost above zero is blocked on Free.
- Available credits and hourly headroom.
- No integration and no verified domain.
Permissions#
Any workspace member on a paid plan can run it. Free accounts are refused with This tool needs a paid plan. Free includes the 10 technical SEO tools; upgrade to Pro to unlock the rest. Signed-out visitors see Please sign in to run this tool. The recommendations panel needs Pro or above.
Cost#
1 credit per run. Below the premium threshold of 3, so the monthly quota never blocks it — only the hourly fair-use cap of 100 light-tool calls per hour.
This tool is not served from the shared cross-customer cache, so every run produces fresh variants; the keyword and SERP fetches behind it are cached for one hour to one day. Generate New on the result re-runs the tool and charges again. Generate Article hands off to the article writer, which is a further credit. See How credits work and Result caching and freshness.

Inputs#
| Field | Accepts | Required | Default | Validation | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
https://example.com/pricing | The URL of the page you want tags for | Yes | Empty | Empty shows Enter a value first. Anything that is not an address shows Enter a page URL, e.g. https://example.com/pricing. This tool reads the page itself, so a description will not work. | The scheme is optional: example.com/pricing is accepted and fetched over https. A description or bare keyword is rejected before the run, so it costs nothing |
Generate Meta Tags · 1 report | — | — | — | — | Enter in the field does the same |
Try sample | — | No | — | — | Runs the tool with whatever is currently in the field; it does not insert an example |
Run with Sample (hero) | — | No | — | — | Also runs the tool with the current field value |
| Country picker (topbar) | Country list | No | United States | — | Recorded with the run, but grounding data always comes from the United States, English-language index |
| Date range (topbar) | — | — | — | — | Hidden on this view |
The header strip states what a run returns: Title Variants 5, Desc Variants 5, Social 3 (X · LinkedIn · FB) and Optimization Score on a 0 to 100 scale.
Step-by-Step Guide#

Reading the Results#
The hero. A META TAG GENERATOR badge with the status VERIFIED · AI + Real SERP Analysis, and the subtitle AI-generated title, description, and social meta variants — optimized for SERP click-through.
The four KPI tiles.
| Tile | Sub-label | Reads | Good | Bad | Action |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
BEST TITLE SCORE | highest variant score | The strongest title on offer | 80+ | Under 60 | If the best title only reaches the 50s, the description you gave was too vague — re-run with more detail |
BEST DESC SCORE | highest variant score | The strongest description | 80+ | Under 60 | Same remedy |
TOTAL VARIANTS | title + description combined | How many options came back | 6 or more | Fewer than 6 | A short list means thin grounding for the topic |
AVG OPTIMIZATION | across all variants | The mean score of everything returned | 80+ | Under 60 | This is the number the overall verdict uses |
Hero actions. Export All downloads every variant as a CSV with the columns Type, Variant, Length, Score, Focus/Approach and Rationale, and confirms with a toast naming how many variants were exported. With nothing to export it says No meta data to export yet. Generate Article sends the topic to the AI Article Generator's Full Article Writer tab and runs it, for another credit; with no run behind it, it says Run meta generation first. Save to Hub stores the best title and description and takes you to My Content. Generate New re-runs the tool and charges again.
The verdict band. Below the tiles, the overall score is shown large with a verdict beside it:
| Verdict | Average score | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
Highly Optimized | 80 or above | Ship the top-scoring pair as written |
Good Coverage | 60 to 79 | Usable, but the best variant is likely to need a small edit |
Needs Work | Below 60 | The input was too vague or the topic too broad — re-run with a sharper description |
Meta Optimization Score. The same overall number with three meters underneath: Best title, Best desc and Avg variant. A high best score with a low average means one strong option and four weak ones — pick carefully rather than assuming any variant will do.
Best Performing Variant. The single highest-scoring option, highlighted. If no scores came back it reads Awaiting variant scores from the AI.
Meta Title Variants — target 50–60 chars · scored 0–100. Five titles. Each card carries the title text, its character count, its score, the angle it takes and a short rationale. The best-scoring card is marked. Every card has a Preview in SERP button that loads it into the preview block below and scrolls you to it. Read the character count as hard as the score: a 74-character title will be truncated in Google no matter how well it reads.
Google SERP Preview — how your meta will render on Google. A rendering of the currently selected title and description as a search result. This is where you catch truncation, awkward line breaks and a description that loses its point at the cut. Cycle through variants with the preview buttons on the cards.
Meta Description Variants — target 150–160 chars · scored 0–100. Five descriptions, each with its length, score, approach and rationale, and its own Preview in SERP button. A description that stops mid-clause at the truncation point is worse than a shorter one that finishes its sentence.
Social Meta Variants — platform-specific copy ready to paste. Copy written per network — X, LinkedIn and Facebook — with a character count against that platform's limit. These are for your social cards and posts, not for the page's meta tags.
Focus Keywords. The terms the variants were built around. Check that they match the keyword you actually want the page to rank for; if they do not, your description of the page pointed the tool at a different topic.
What to do with it. Take the highest-scoring title inside 60 characters and the highest-scoring description inside 160, preview both together, then paste them into your CMS. Re-check the page afterwards with On-Page SEO Checker, which reads the tags as published.
Examples#
Example: You enter pricing page for a project management tool for agencies. The hero returns BEST TITLE SCORE 88, BEST DESC SCORE 81, TOTAL VARIANTS 10 and AVG OPTIMIZATION 76 — the verdict band reads Good Coverage. The top title is 57 characters and leads with the audience; the second scores 84 but runs to 71 characters, and the SERP preview shows it truncating mid-word. You take the 57-character title, pair it with the 154-character description scoring 81, preview the pair, and paste them into the CMS. Export All gives you the other eight for the next round of testing.

Tips#
- Point it at the exact page, not the site root.
example.comgets tags for the homepage;example.com/pricinggets tags for the pricing page. - Give the page real copy before running. The variants are written from what the page says, so a page that is still a placeholder produces placeholder tags.
- Judge on character count first, score second. A truncated snippet cannot perform, whatever it scores.
- Use
Preview in SERPon your shortlist rather than reading the raw text. - Export before you re-run.
Generate Newreplaces what is on screen and costs another credit. - Run Content Optimizer on the same URL for body-copy changes; this tool covers the title, description and social variants only.
Best Practices#
- Write the snippet at publish time, not months later when traffic disappoints.
- Put the distinguishing detail — the audience, the price, the number — early in the title, where truncation cannot reach it.
- Do not repeat the title in the description. The two should say different things.
- Keep a record of the variant you shipped so a later click-through change can be attributed; every run is stored in Saved Work.
- Re-generate a snippet when the SERP for that keyword visibly changes.
Common Mistakes#
- Entering a description or a keyword. The field takes a URL. "CRM" and "homepage for a CRM" are both rejected before the run.
- Choosing the highest score regardless of length. A 74-character title will be cut.
- Pasting the social variants into the page's meta tags. They are written for social networks and sized for them.
- Pressing
Generate Newto "see other options". It is a fresh paid run, not a re-shuffle of what you already have. - Running it on a page whose content has not shipped yet. The variants describe the page as it is right now, not as it will be.
Limitations#
- The tool reads the page as a crawler sees it: the served HTML. Copy that a browser builds with JavaScript after load is not visible to it, so a client-rendered page can come back as
That page loaded but had no readable text. - The page must be publicly reachable. A page behind a login, an IP allowlist or a bot block cannot be read, and the run stops rather than guessing.
- The page read is capped: the first 400 KB of HTML, the first three H1s, eight H2s and about 2,000 characters of body copy.
- Grounding data comes from Google's United States, English-language index; the country picker does not change the market.
- Related keywords are capped at 30 and the results are read to a depth of 30.
- Character targets follow Google's usual display limits, which vary in practice with pixel width and device — the preview is a close approximation, not a guarantee.
- Social variants cover X, LinkedIn and Facebook only.
- The tool does not write the tags into your site. Copy them into your CMS yourself.

FAQs#
How many variants do I get? Five titles and five descriptions per run, plus social copy for three networks. TOTAL VARIANTS on the result counts the titles and descriptions together.
What does the 0-100 score mean? It rates each variant on how well it fits the display length, how clearly it carries the focus keyword, and how it compares with the snippets already ranking. The verdict band uses the average of all variants.
Why are the targets 50-60 and 150-160 characters? Those are the lengths Google usually displays in full. Past them the snippet is truncated, which is why the tool colors length as strictly as it scores wording.
Can it read my existing page and rewrite its tags? No. It works from your description. To get suggestions grounded in a specific live page, run Content Optimizer, which returns title and meta suggestions alongside its score.
Does generating meta tags publish them? No. Copy them into your CMS. Afterwards you can confirm what is live with On-Page SEO Checker.
Where do the variants go after I close the screen? Every run is saved and reachable from Saved Work and My Content; re-opening a saved result is free. Export All also downloads them as a file.
