Social Composer
Turns one topic into ready-to-publish social drafts — a paced 14-day calendar on the Social Poster tab, or a whole post library on the Social Content tab.
Last updated 2026-09-14
Summary#
Social Composer writes social posts from a single topic. The Social Poster tab paces 14 days of drafts across X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok with a best time for each. The Social Content tab produces a standalone library of posts organized by content pillar and platform.
Purpose#
The hard part of social is not writing one post — it is writing thirty, keeping them varied, and respecting five different character limits and five different posting rhythms while doing it.
This tool does the volume work. It applies each platform's real conventions — LinkedIn wants long copy broken every couple of sentences, X wants under 275 characters and at most two hashtags, TikTok wants the hook on line one — and hands back complete drafts with the character count checked against the platform limit. Your job becomes editing and approving, not starting from a blank box.
Overview#
The sidebar entry Social Composer opens the view as Social Poster, with a tab strip offering two tools:
| Tab | What it produces | Cost | Run button |
|---|---|---|---|
| Social Poster | A 14-day posting calendar across five platforms | 1 credit | Generate 14-Day Plan · 1 report |
| Social Content | A standalone library of posts across five platforms | 1 credit | Generate 20 Posts · 1 report |
Both are pure generation. Neither queries a search-data provider, so the output is written copy rather than measured data, and both take a topic, brand or theme rather than a domain.
Every draft comes back complete: a hook, the body, a call to action, hashtags, and a character count checked against that platform's limit — green when it fits, red when it does not. Every post has a Copy button, and the whole set exports as CSV, plain text, and, on the Social Poster tab, an iCalendar file.
Neither tab publishes anything itself. On the Social Poster tab, Post this on a card opens Social Dashboard with that post already in the composer, where you pick channels and publish or schedule it. From the Social Content tab, copy a post and paste it into the composer.
Benefits#
- Two weeks or a full library of ready-to-publish drafts from one line of input.
- Per-platform character limits checked and flagged on every card.
- Best posting time and a short reason for it on every calendar entry.
- Hashtag strategy, hook formulas and a CTA library you can reuse beyond this run.
- One credit per run, whichever tab you use.
- iCalendar export on the Social Poster tab, so the plan lands in your real calendar.
Use Cases#
- New channel launch. A fortnight of paced posts for a channel you are starting, instead of a blank content calendar.
- Campaign fortnight. Two weekly themes with a stated goal each — awareness then conversion — and the posts to carry them.
- Content bank. The Social Content tab fills a backlog you draw from on the days there is nothing to say.
- Voice brief. The hook formulas, CTA library and brand-voice line describe the tone you want faster than a written brief.
- Client pitch. Show a prospect the fortnight you would run for them, in their own topic, before they sign.
Requirements#
- A signed-in Metric Vault account.
- A paid plan. The Free plan covers the zero-credit technical tools only.
- One credit available. See How credits work.
- A topic, brand or theme in the input. A bare domain works poorly here; describe the subject instead.
Permissions#
Plan decides access; team role does not.

Cost#
1 credit per run on both tabs. The run buttons read Generate 14-Day Plan · 1 report and Generate 20 Posts · 1 report, but the charge is one credit, and that is what the saved-result prompt and your usage record show.
As a light tool, it is recorded in your usage and never blocked by the monthly premium allowance — only by the fair-use limit of 100 light calls per hour.
Neither tab is served from the shared cross-customer cache, so every run is generated fresh. If you have run the same topic before, the "You already ran this" prompt offers Open saved result, which is free, or Run fresh, which charges again. See How credits work and Result caching and freshness.
Navigation Path#
Dashboard → Promote → Social Composer
Then use the tab strip to switch between Social Poster and Social Content.
Inputs#
| Field | Accepts | Required | Default | Validation | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Social Poster input (e.g. productivity tips for founders) | A topic or theme | Yes | Empty | Empty input returns Enter a value first. | Descriptive topics produce better drafts than a single word |
Social Content input (e.g. sustainable skincare) | A brand or theme | Yes | Empty | Empty input returns Enter a value first. | Same guidance |
| Country (topbar) | Any country in the picker | No | United States | — | Recorded with the run |
| Range (topbar) | The standard range segments | No | 30 days | — | Recorded with the run; the calendar is always 14 days |
There is no brand-voice field, no platform selector and no post-count control. The platform set is fixed at X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
Step-by-Step Guide#
- Open
Dashboard → Promote → Social Composer. - Choose a tab: Social Poster for a dated calendar, Social Content for a library.
- Type your topic. Be specific —
productivity tips for foundersproduces sharper drafts thanproductivity. - Press the run button, or press Enter in the input.
- If you have run this topic before, choose Open saved result (free) or Run fresh (1 credit).
- Read the four tiles and the summary line, then work down the calendar or the post grid.
- Check the character-count badge on any post you intend to publish as-is.
- Press Copy on a post to put the hook, body, CTA and hashtags on your clipboard as one block.
- Export the whole set from the export bar — CSV, plain text, or the iCalendar file on the Social Poster tab.
- Press Post this on an approved Social Poster card, or paste a Social Content post into the composer on Social Dashboard, to publish or schedule it.
Reading the Results#
The Social Poster tab#
The header shows your topic, a 14-Day Plan badge, the number of platforms covered and the number of posts produced.
The four tiles.
- Total Posts (
ready to publish) — how many drafts came back. Expect roughly 14, one per day. A materially lower number means the generation was cut short; re-run. - Platforms (
channels covered) — should read 5. Fewer means a platform was skipped, and the Weekly Cadence chart will show which. - Days (
on the calendar) — should read 14. Fewer means gaps in the fortnight. - Themes (
weekly arcs) — normally 2, one per week.
The calendar summary beneath the tiles is a two-sentence description of the narrative arc across the fortnight. Read it first: if the arc does not match your campaign, the individual posts will not either, and re-running with a sharper topic is cheaper than editing fourteen drafts.
Weekly Themes gives each week a theme and a concrete goal — awareness and discovery in week one, engagement or conversion in week two is the usual shape. This is the block to check against your actual campaign objective.
14-Day Calendar is the body of the report, grouped by day. Each post card carries:
| Element | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Platform badge and time | Which channel, and the recommended posting time |
Character count n/limit | Green when the draft fits the platform limit, red when it does not. Limits used are X 275, TikTok 300, Facebook 500, Instagram 2,200, LinkedIn 2,500 |
| Format | Thread, single, image, video, poll, carousel, reel, article and so on |
| Hook | The scroll-stopping first line — the part that decides whether the rest is read |
| Draft | The complete post body |
| CTA | The call to action |
| Hashtags | Tags for that post |
| Why this time | A one-line reason for the slot |
| Engagement hook | The psychological trigger used, such as curiosity or contrast |
| Copy | Copies hook, body, CTA and hashtags as one block |
| Post this | Opens the Social Dashboard with this post in the composer and shows Copied into the composer. Pick your channels and publish. Nothing is sent until you press Publish or Schedule there |
Read the red character badges first — those are the only cards that cannot be published without an edit. Then read the hooks in sequence; if several open the same way, vary them before publishing, because a fortnight of identical openings is the fastest way to lose a feed.
Weekly Cadence charts posts per platform. Check it against where your audience actually is. A plan weighted to TikTok is wrong for a B2B audience no matter how good the drafts are, and it is a reason to re-run with a narrower topic.
Hashtag Strategy is a table of tag, role (Brand, Topic, Community or Trending) and suggested uses per week. A healthy set mixes roles; all-brand tags reach nobody new.
Engagement Playbook lists triggers with when to use them and an example hook. These outlast this run — keep them.
KPIs to Track gives metrics with week-one and week-two targets and how to measure each. Treat the targets as planning suggestions rather than forecasts; the tool has no visibility of your account's history.
The Social Content tab#
The header names the theme, marks the result AI generated, and gives the post count.
The four tiles read Posts (ready to publish), Platforms (channels covered), Content Pillars (themes in rotation) and Hashtags (in the library).
Brand voice applied is a two-sentence description of the voice used. If it does not sound like you, re-run with the voice described in the input.
Content Pillars groups the library into themes, each with a description and the share of the library it takes. A library dominated by one pillar will read repetitively across a month.
Platform Mix shows a donut plus a per-platform row: the post count, the share of the library, the best posting time and a short reason for it. Read the shares against your real channel priorities before you start scheduling.
The posts are cards in a grid. Each carries a platform badge, a format badge, the character-count badge against that platform's limit, the hook, the body, the CTA, hashtag pills, suggested image alt text, a one-line explanation of why the post works, an expandable A/B variant hook, and a Copy post button. The alt-text suggestion is worth keeping — it is accessibility work you would otherwise skip.
Hashtag Library explains each tag: why to use it and which platforms it suits. Hook Formulas lists reusable opening patterns with the reason each works. CTA Library pairs calls to action with their intent — drive traffic, build the list, drive purchase, encourage saves, spark replies. Those three blocks are the part of the run you will still be using next quarter.
Best practices applied appears above the export bar, listing the platform conventions the generation followed.
Examples#
Example: You run productivity tips for founders on the Social Poster tab for 1 credit. Total Posts reads 14, Platforms 5, Days 14, Themes 2. Week 1 is "Diagnose the time leak" with an awareness goal; week 2 is "Systems that stick" with an engagement goal. Day 1 has an X post at 9:00 AM reading 247/275 in green, and a LinkedIn post at 8:00 AM reading 1,890/2,500. Day 4's TikTok card reads 318/300 in red, so you trim two sentences from the caption. Weekly Cadence shows LinkedIn 4, X 4, Instagram 3, Facebook 2, TikTok 1 — right for a founder audience. You export the iCalendar file, then copy day 1's LinkedIn post into the Social Dashboard composer and schedule it for 8:00 AM tomorrow.

Tips#
- Write the topic as a fragment aimed at an audience, not a keyword.
sustainable skincare for sensitive skinbeatsskincare. - Scan the character badges first. Red badges are the only mandatory edits.
- Keep the hook formulas and CTA library from a good run; they apply to every later campaign.
- Use the iCalendar export to get the fortnight into the calendar your team already watches.
- Run both tabs on the same topic when you need a paced fortnight and a backlog — two credits total.
Best Practices#
- Edit before publishing. These are strong drafts with no knowledge of your product details, pricing or claims.
- Verify every factual statement and number a draft asserts. There is no data source behind the copy.
- Vary the hooks by hand if several read alike; a repetitive fortnight underperforms a shorter varied one.
- Match the platform mix to your channels rather than accepting the generated weighting.
- Post approved drafts through Social Dashboard so the schedule and the results live in one place.
Common Mistakes#
- Entering a domain. These tabs work from a topic or theme, not a website.
- Publishing a red-badged post. X and TikTok in particular will refuse over-length copy.
- Treating the KPI targets as forecasts. They are planning suggestions with no view of your history.
- Expecting Post this to publish. It only fills the composer on the Social Dashboard. Nothing is sent until you press Publish or Schedule there.
- Expecting exactly 30 posts on the Social Content tab. The button label says 30; the library is generated at around 20 posts.
- Assuming the label "3 reports" means three credits. One credit is charged.
Limitations#
- Five fixed platforms: X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. No YouTube, Threads, Pinterest or Reddit.
- No brand-voice input, no tone control, no post-count control and no platform selection.
- No data source. Nothing in the output is measured, including the KPI targets and the best-time recommendations, which come from general platform conventions.
- The calendar is always 14 days, in two weekly themes.
- The Social Content library is generated at roughly 20 posts despite the
Generate 20 Postslabel. - Character counts are reported by the generator and checked against a fixed limit table; verify anything close to a limit before publishing.
- No image or video is produced — the alt text is a suggestion for an image you supply.
- Dates on the calendar are relative day labels, not a real schedule; the iCalendar export starts from today.
- No publishing or scheduling on this screen. Post this (Social Poster tab only) fills the Social Dashboard composer; publishing there costs 1 credit per channel that accepts the post.

FAQs#
How much does a run cost? One credit, on either tab. The button labels read · 3 reports, but the charge is one credit and that is what your usage shows.
Which tab should I use? Social Poster for a dated fortnight you can follow day by day. Social Content for a bank of posts to draw from without fixed dates.
Can it publish the posts for me? Not from this screen. On the Social Poster tab, Post this puts a post into the composer on Social Dashboard, where you pick channels and publish or schedule it. Social Content posts are copied and pasted.
Is any of this based on my actual social performance? No. The drafts, the posting times and the KPI targets come from general platform conventions, not from your accounts. For measured signals, see Social Analytics.
Why does the Social Content tab return about 20 posts when the button says 30? The library is generated at around 20 complete posts. The button label overstates it; the count on the result is accurate.
Can I choose which platforms are included? No. The five platforms are fixed. Delete the ones you do not need after export.
Are the drafts safe to publish as written? Treat them as first drafts. Check the character badges, verify any factual claim, and adjust the voice before anything goes out under your brand.
